And so he should be, good on him.

If Nick Notacluey had a hitout anywhere near as awesome as Kepler's overhead hook that ended up right in front of Pav's eyes in the goalsquare, Perth would've had to build a statue of him, name a medal after him and just generally drown under a tidal wave of hyperbole.

In my recent vigorous procrastination attempts, my mind has wandered back to footy. More specifically, I've been thinking about how we're going to set up next season. It seems that conventional wisdom states that Kepler is the second choice backup ruck behind Magic Johnson. Said conventional wisdom also suggests that Kepler will be on the periphery next season, looking in at our marvelous, undefeated Premiership season.

I like Kepler. Not just because he's a funny looking bloke who might be just as suited to a career in physical comedy in a travelling sideshow, but I reckon he can play the game a bit. A lot of people would brush that off and giggle to themselves, suggesting that I'm just admiring another cult hero. Kepler may have a cult like following at Freo, but he deserves more respect than he's given. A lot more. He's a very unique athlete. A man standing 199cm and over 100kg is not allowed to move as freely as our Kep does. Nor is he supposed to gifted with a reliable, long kick or the ability to make the footy appear as if it's on a string. Kep does these things. He takes marks. He kicks goals. He runs hard. He never, ever stops trying and I reckon he's pretty damn consistent now. Have a go at this: Kep played 12 games this season and had possession counts as follows in each: 25, 15, 21, 16, 19, 14, 12, 17, 14, 21, 21, 21. That's an average of 18 touches, with 5.5 marks per game, 6.1 hitouts and 1.2 goals to boot.

Very handy output by anyone's standards. Interestingly, stack him up against similar players and all of a sudden you wonder why he's been typecast as a fringe player.

With Griffin and Zac playing more Kep will be freed up to fill holes down the spine, and Johnson will be free to play a KP

Now doubt Kep has exceeded the expectations we had when we drafted him (in my case anyway) but my main worry with him is his longevity.

The guy's knees seem to constantly draw attention from our medicos and he runs (ie limps) like his cartilage is made of razorblades.
