Jr. likely knew about it as well. Whilst both democrats and republicans are complicit, likewise members of the media and big industry players (google, MS etc.), it is really the agencies themselves that are setting the agenda.

Most senior officials will be in the same positions, or similar as governments come and go.

Also, this thread really deserves mainboard status. This s**t is so out of control that you have US allies actually willing to take a public stance against uncle Sam.

apart from snowden and drake, has anyone at NSA or the wider security state, sat back, seen with a degree of detachment, where this structure and orwell vision will end. When, where, does this play out?

Obama or GW coming in and doing a 180 turn on the inbuilt genetics of these agencies? Like you said, ^ they know, they probably know they are futile to do the about shift EVEN if they so aspired.

where does it end. what is the end game. do the data monkeys ever ask this question. if they did, they would be drake or snowden.

far left inverted commas "far left" socialist alliance (melb) is equivalent to "far right" in scandanavia. just like "free market", these appellations really mean little rather than a mark on a spectrum for relative comparison.

Anyone wanting to enter politics and have a political career from now, ought to think of brand differentiation. Gees, this makes me sound like a marketing w@nker, I will plead guilty to the w@nker part, but not the advertising or marketing douche prefix.

Do not do law, do not do uni politics. Go and work in a kibbutz, or on a kibbutz in israel. Do something different. dont be an advisor in Canberra or work for Slaters or Mo' Blackburn, or ACTU or the IPA. The train driver is the new black, or new sandstone law.

Obama saw 3hree decades ahead, he could never take the traditional route. And now the traditional route is rooted and atomised by Alex Hawke and pig Howes and their ilk.

i watched it. had loaded the thing up, and it crashed tho before i watched it (again). Saw clips it included about 30% previous. the hedges, chomsky, william black, all saw. And stuff from same producters/or new free doco style.

so the evo question. Are you saying my best GOP potus they never had, is off-the-mark. He is 100% Demo, gets the wide berth and underwriting of the public. They rise in the street and protest to shut Guantanamo if MCain and Palin get in, but stay shtum on Obama. NYTimes may still cover black-sites and G-bay, but it is more short shrift, and not advocacy journalism.

I know all this. I knew all that. I will plead guilt tho, to getting the DNA of the democrats wrong. I knew it was Clinton with Glass Stegel. I still think when they talk of Obama's micro donor fundraising through the internet, and the records, that was a little bullshit to cover the true source of the donations, and it did become self fulfilling, because as they talked about the one-dollar pocket money from 8 year olds, everyone wanted to buy-in and get on him, like the favourite on Cup day, to have more, or just some, skin in the game. That way most humanities academics: Phillip Adams, Schlomo Sand, Zizek, Huffington Post, Socialist worker newsletter, blackcat, contra mundum etc. will only ever make token objections. After all, Obama or Rudd may be a carnt but at least they are our carnts... they aren't - Bush, Reagan, Howard, Thatcher.......

evo you know i put the boot into the ALP and Democrats as if they were GWBush neo-cons. Cos they actually are. And as much as Julia did adequately marshalling policy through the lower house in the hung parliament, she demonstrated she stood for jack s**t.

so they arent my carnts. I dont hold ALP membership. I am not an ALP voter. I dont vote green neither.

actually, edit: the public mandate, and the public (Dems) give him underwriting. So that was prolly what i meant, on re-reading the first post. I was using the phrase in terms on the Democratic base, their support. underwriting musta been what i meant.

Snowden affair nails it. Only 8 weeks ago Obama was ostentatiously as Poto declining to meet one on one with Putin in runup to G20 in St Petersburg because Putin had given Snowden asylum.

Since then Putin has owned Obama over Syria, owned him over Iran and is now rubbing it in by allowing Snowden to leak with impunity and what is Barry doing about it? Nothing because he can't.

And what will Snowden keep doing ? Continue to serve up massive humiliation for the US and humiliation for its allies, that's what, as well as compromising its security. All under Putin's protection.

Quite extraordinary, really.
