The result from the Grand Final on Saturday was certainly surprising and very impressive by the boys from the swamp.

20.15 to 10.10 is certainly a fair flogging especially as Lindenow South had been beaten by 20 goals by the creek earlier in the season (they were undermanned however).

Key forward Sam Howden was exceptional in his 11 goal B.O.G performance marking everything in sight and converting nearly every chance he had, other strong players for South were Russell White who racked up massive numbers in the midfield, Nathan Pollard who must have had some guidance from older players before the GF as he worked both ways exceptionally hard, Warren Martin was also exceptional on the half back line setting up numerous forward thrusts. An honourable mention must go to Lindenow Souths two key defenders Mick Harington and Chris White who kept Tim Liston,Damien Tubb and Damian Pedder Quiet all day not an easy task in itself.

For the Creek John Haynes was the evergreen hard nut and Tom Neeson and Beau Gaudion were full of running. The form of their key forwards was very disappointing, they would have had fewer than 3 marks each for the day. Damien Pedder in particular was very well held compared to the 6 goal haul he had last year.

I for one think Bairnsdale would be mad not to try and get Sam Howden on their books and get a big preseason into him, he is young, big, highly skilled and as per the old adage in the ODFL, does not train hard (No-one in ODFL does!!) He could be anything i reckon. Also on another note, the umpiring was for the most part quite good. Hopefully they will move next years finals series to West Bairnsdale so more people can see the game as the quality of footy is vastly improved from previous years.

Went away fishing for the weekend down the gippsland lakes and ventured down to bruthen vs buchan on Saturday and was impressed by the community spirit and the enjoyment everyone was having from the boys at the gate to the trainers rubbing calves at 3/4 time.. Few boys coming up from melbourne we had a ball watching
