Half Term Tony. Is it a possibility?

We're a strange bunch. But then again Colin Barnett has done a solid job and his government has grown the State (while the opposition is quite ineffectual at getting their message across) - probably going to get another term but it will be interesting to see if we held a Federal election right now. Abbott is mud over here too.
Pretty much, We've had it pretty good in the 6 years he's been around and the opposition mob are pretty soft. With the MUA refusing to endorse Ben Wyatt as opposition leader It's the liberals to lose it.

He's also fantastic at distancing himself with the Federal government so the Toxic Abbott wouldn't damage his standing as much as it could

A solid chance to go within the month after tonight.

Bishop PM-Turnbull Deputy most likely. Solid chance that Hockey falls with Abbott, so Turnbull might get treasury.
They'll go for Turnbull over Bishop. Bishop is popular within and has looked good but foreign affairs is a very flat track and people will remember that she was pretty bad as shadow treasurer. Turnbull is hugely popular in the electorate and I doubt many would argue that he is not the most talented liberal atm. He is probably also more palatable to the conservatives in the party now that climate change is not "the issue" in federal politics. Most importantly though, Turnbull as liberal leader is a guaranteed win at the next election. I would stake my house on it

What he says in his speech on Monday is irrelevant. Every question will be about his clock running out.

What he says full stop is irrelevant; it's also going to be very hard for him to campaign at another election with all the broken promises and bold-faced lies.

You'll lose the house but Turnbull saves the furniture.

I've voted ALP all my life and would only consider voting for the coalition if Malcolm were the leader.

Yeah but the ALP brand is pretty damaged in WA compared to pretty much every other state.

only because WA folk choose to hang-on to the past longer than any other folk in the country. I lived there for 35 years so I know what it's like. You could say the ALP QLD brand was fairly damaged just 3 years ago, and look at it now. The brand is sound it's just the person doing the selling.

The man who killed off Slipper for Abbott could now destroy him. You couldn't write it!

Worth a re-quote.

Actually I don't want Abbot to stand down or be replaced as I am having too much fun listening to my Liberal friends that voted for him whinge.

Said something similar earlier in this thread but I don't care so much about my lib voting mates. I am taking great delight however in having my normally labor voting friends complain bitterly about Abbott and the current government.

Abbott has not changed one little bit from the mad monk / prick persona he has always had. He simply just shut his mouth for a couple of years so the mass population forgot what he was like.

Leave him in for the full term I say.

Precisely, but aided and abetted to a great extent by a Labor Party that was in self destruct mode.

Absolutely. Well accepted that Labor lost the election rather than the Libs winning it.

And even with all the carnage within the Labor party, Julia did enough to stop a Qld style loss (point of clarification: by stepping aside the way she did...and shutting her mouth in the process).

Not really. All it confirms is that the socialists have too much influence over the sheeple. Bludgers will look after their own interests first. People will always vote for the politician/s who steal from others to line their pockets. There is nothing like money for nothing. Qld will be bankrupt in 3 years.

Cry me a river champ.

Bitter tears.

If they could only see that it is not just about Leadership, it is about lies, broken promises, and unfair policy direction.
No-one could sell a positive message on any of these.
For me the biggest example is the co-payment, if the money from this co-payment was going towards maintaining/improving hospital access/care, I don't have a problem but the fact it is going to some medical fund in the near future seems to defeat their arguement that medicare is in crisis.

With the exception that the far right of the Liberal party hate Turnbull, they see him as nothing more than a labor person who accidentally joined the wrong party.
If he is elected leader they will work against him, sure he will get a honeymoon period but as soon as he starts talking ETS or Social Reform they will go after him

The federal government now have no mandate to change anything IMO... if they want to continue to Attack the medicare system/Minimum wage/Uni fees whilst rewarding high income earners with a parental pay scheme they will see a similar swing in the next Election. They need a new leader and they need to go to the polls with their policies and get that mandate. If I was the Libs I would beg Abbott to step down and I would call another election in about 4 months time.... then they need to put thier policies on the table and convince the people that they need to do the reforms for the good of the country .... They need to use shock tactics and use the debt angle to convince Australians that their policies are good for the country..... At the end of the day with or with out an early election the Libs wont beable to govern how they want anyway with out more anger from the public....they need the mandate,.,,, or it will be just another wasted government.....

According to GuruJane the PM writes all his own speeches. So we can expect an hour of umming and ahing.
Abbott speaking on ABC24 in about 10mins.
Oops, came on sooner than expected but nothing new, same old, same old.
Stronger economy for all Australians,
Safer for all Australians
Fix up the mess left by the previous Government.
Cannot move on, he is gone and all of his own making.

He is still in his "Leader of the Opposition" mode, he never made the transition to PM
Fortunately for all concerned he will be thrown on the scrap heap of failed politicians soon enough.
