A couple of things I discovered today is that we have been the second best defensive team since Round 7, sitting only behind Hawthorn (keep in mind also that Richmond have played an extra game against the current top 8 teams than the other elite defensive teams: Hawthorn, Fremantle and West Coast over this time).

We currently average 72.8 points against per game, which is tracking for our best defensive season since 1967, who at the time averaged 71.1 points against per game. However, upcoming games against two of the lowest scoring teams in Essendon and Gold Coast should give us scope to improve this number further. Deduced from the chart above, we are averaging 65.3 points against over the past 10 weeks.

To get under the 71.1 it means we'll need to average 62.1 points against over the next 5 weeks.
The next best defensive season is 1965 with an average of 69.3 points against. To beat this would require and average of 54.3 points against over the last 5 rounds, and would then give us our best defensive season since 1933!

What happens after 1933?
