Sole guy not playing or pushing for selection this week. Still a couple of weeks away with his knee.

All of the West Coast Eagles players listed on the club’s injury list, with two exceptions, were on the training track this afternoon and are a chance to be available this week.

Of the two players absent – young forward Murray Newman and experienced defender Sam Butler – only Newman is no chance to play. He is still a fortnight away from resumption because of a knee injury

So dropped the ball on this one..... not sure what I was up to in March....

http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/young-eagle-to-deny-gbh-charge-20130321-2giq0.html

West Coast's rising AFL star Murray Newman will plead not guilty to a charge of grievous bodily harm.
Newman, 18, was charged after an incident in November at the Library Nightclub in Perth's Northbridge entertainment district that allegedly left a man with facial injuries so severe he needed surgery.
In Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday, Newman's lawyer indicated he would plead not guilty to the charge.
He would also try to have the charge downgraded.
Newman was released on bail and will next appear in court in June.
At a previous hearing, Newman was barred from entering any nightclub and not allowed on any licensed premises after 11.30pm.
Newman also posted $10,000 bail with a $10,000 surety and vowed not to contact or go within 50m of the alleged victim.
At the time he was charged, the Eagles said they were "bitterly disappointed" with Murray, who played four games in his debut season for the club, kicking three goals.
His off-season has not improved since. He was beaten by 44-year-old John Worsfold in two 2km running time-trials in the days after his arrest.

In other Newman news, he's still listed as 3 weeks for his knee.

Although not yet being up to playing WAFL yet, Murray was back on the training track with the full squad this week.

Completely fabricated rumours are that the "beautiful, sunny conditions" were a direct result of Newman resuming training. There was also a double rainbow.

http://www.westcoasteagles.com.au/news/2013-05-31/eagles-prepare-for-tigers

The West Coast Eagles stepped up preparations for the historic clash with Richmond on WA Day with a solid hit-out at Patersons Stadium today.

The full squad was at work and it was most encouraging was to see young hopefuls Jeremy McGovern and Murray Newman – on the return from ankle and knee injuries respectively – back on the track.

The Eagles will play Richmond, the club’s first opponent at Subiaco Oval on March 29, 1987, in a round 10 clash on Monday evening (5.40pm start) as part of the WA Day celebrations.

The club has selected the same 22 who played against Greater Western Sydney and simply added 2006 Norm Smith medallist Andrew Embley, fellow premiership player Adam Selwood and rugged utility player Pat McGinnity to an extended bench.

The starting line-up will be finalised tomorrow afternoon after the match committee considers all options for this must-win game.

Having won the last four games in succession, West Coast has vaulted into the top eight for the first time this season (sixth) and is keen to consolidate against the Tigers and then St Kilda in the next fortnight.

In beautiful, sunny conditions this morning, the players completed an enthusiastic hour-long session and are anxious to maintain the momentum built in the last month.

Injury has come down a bit, hope to see Newman back in the WAFL in the next couple of weeks. Also, nice to see he's classed as a midfielder and not a forward.

http://www.westcoasteagles.com.au/news/2013-06-04/sharrod-on-the-mend

Important midfielder Sharrod Wellingham is making steady progress from an ankle injury and could be close to a return after the club’s mid-season break.

Wellingham has been listed as needing another 4-5 weeks before he is ready to resume, but with the bye coming up after the St Kilda game at Etihad Stadium on the weekend he could miss only another couple of games into the second half of the year.

Wellingham played just one game with East Perth after a delayed start to the season because of a similar injury to the other ankle, but the latest problem is rated less severe.

His recovery will not be rushed, but he is tracking according to original expectations.

Young midfielder Murray Newman is also only a week or two away from resuming, while tough defender Beau Waters, who has battled to get any continuity into his season, is a chance to play against the Saints.

Fellow defender Will Schofield is still recovering from a compound dislocation of as finger suffered against North Melbourne while Brad Dick and Cale Morton suffered hamstring injuries in the WAFL at the weekend.

Injury List
Wellingham (ankle) 4-5 weeks
Dick (hamstring) 2-3 weeks
Newman (knee) 1-2 weeks
Schofield (finger) 1-2 weeks
Morton (hamstring) 1-2 weeks
Waters (quad) Test

Named on ball for this weeks WAFL match against Subiaco, bit surprising given his extended lay off but good to see him straight back into the ones.

Pleading n/g and released on bail until September.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-06-...al-over-night-club-assault/4754262?section=wa

West Coast Eagles footballer Murray Newman has been committed to stand trial in the District Court over an alleged night club assault.
Newman is charged with causing grievous bodily harm to another man who it is alleged was punched in the face outside a Northbridge night club in November last year.
Newman's lawyer told the Perth Magistrates Court his client will be pleading not guilty.
Newman was released on bail until his next court appearance in September.

Not a flash game by Newman unfortunately. 1 g 1 b, 11 possessions and doughnuts for tackles.

Small forward Murray Newman (11 possessions), did not impact as he would have liked

Would also seem to imply that he's not in the frame for a senior game anytime soon (obvious statement but anyway).

The Eagles were most appreciative that three clubs – West Perth, East Fremantle and East Perth – were sympathetic to a six-day turnaround, which meant some key players could not play full games.

The Eagles have to back up from the Friday night fixture against Hawthorn to play Essendon on Thursday night. Brad Sheppard and Jacob Brennan (East Fremantle), Mark Hutchings (West Perth) and Jamie Cripps and Will Schofield (East Perth) are all on the selection short-list and needed to be specifically managed with that in mind.

Reports Murray Newman has left the ground. Packed up and took off at quarter-time.

He's nowhere to be seen near the Swans' bench and didn't appear injured. Will have an update at half-time.

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/-/wafl/17985882/troubled-eagle-walks-out-of-wafl-match/

The career of young West Coast forward Murray Newman is in serious jeopardy after he stormed out of the ground at quarter-time while playing for Swan Districts today.
The 19-year-old had played a reasonable first quarter against Claremont at Claremont Oval but walked straight into the rooms at the first break, grabbed his bag and left without speaking to Swans staff.
West Coast football operations manager Neil Daniher was seen speaking to Swans officials at half-time, with the reasons behind his disappearance still a mystery.
Newman is on fragile ground at the Eagles after attracting a grievous bodily harm charge in an alleged nightclub incident last November.
He then returned out of shape at this year’s pre-season training, being beaten in an early run by 44-year-old coach John Worsfold.
Newman was drafted by the Eagles at pick No.23 in the 2011 National draft and played four games in his debut season.

Update Re the weekends events

http://www.westcoasteagles.com.au/news/2013-07-15/newman-granted-leave.workstation
The West Coast Eagles have today met with young forward Murray Newman and granted him compassionate leave.
Newman left Claremont Oval on Saturday at quarter-time and is dealing with personal issues associated with his pending court hearing into a grevious bodily harm charge.
The club is supporting Murray through this period and we ask that people respect his privacy as he deals with this matter.
The club will make no further comment on the issue.

Personally, I like this move by the club. No doubt they will have told the media to stay clear a bit of the whole matter and give the kid space. Hope that Murray is able to manage everything alright and get through any issues.
