DOB: 11/10/1966

Height: 198cm

Weight: 90 kg

Playing number: 29

Arrived: Drafted at pick 10 in the 1988 national draft, from Claremont

Debut: Round 11, 1989 vs Collingwood – 53rd Eagles player.

Games: 4

Goals: 0

Departed: Delisted at the end of the 1991 season

Ruckman Higgins played under-19s and reserves football for Carlton before crossing west to play for Claremont in the WAFL. Higgins played in the Tigers’ 1987 premiership and was drafted by West Coast in the 1988 draft.

Higgins had a strong debut with 28 hitouts against Collingwood but played just three more games in 1989 and none at all in 1990. He was delisted at the end of that season, but picked up again in the 1991 pre-season draft. After again failing to gain senior selection, he was cut for good at the end of the 1991 season.

Haha - but it's a doozy!

Not much to add, unfortunately. Like Brent Hutton and many others, he's a player that I don't think would've got many games for the Eagles had we not had such a bad 1989, injury-wise. Definitely behind Laurie Keene and Phil Scott in the ruck stakes, and probably also behind David O'Connell as well.

Servicable for Claremont though as a premiership ruckman.

Can remember him getting a long suspension after a behind the play incident that gave him a thug reputation for a while, helped by the moustache.

Now the mo just makes him look like a softy.

Imagine internet back then, big footy thread = "wasted a top 10 pick, could have had so and so"
(Darren Bennet, Chris Grant, Anthony Stevens, Michael Long)
Drafting has improved. Michael Long would have looked nice in our premiership side.
We also had pick 2 (Todd Breman but that's another thread)
