I want people to lower the expectations rather than set the kid up to fail.

There's no need to add to the pressure on him by placing unrealistic expectations, it's going to be bad enough with the Desean comparisons this year.
He doesnt read bigfooty so i'll continue to say what i think he'll be - a top 5 WR for the next decade. But you're right - the hype from the media will die down now.

And Blacky, apparently his speed was an issue too... The combine showed that to be totally wrong. His 'poor hands' are a myth.

Had a drop rate of over 7%

At least there is evidence to support that line of thinking, not just baseless claims

Still think he will be very good (picked him up before Watkins in dynasty) just think people need to pump the brakes before anointing him as the second coming of Rice

Matthews will be fine. One of the drops last night was actually a catch for a big gain but it never got challenged. I have no concerns about him, he was Vanderbilt and was always attracting the best defenders in the SEC. Can't have any better preparation than that for the NFL.

Combine speed =/ game speed.

We don't have enough evidence yet to rule out ability to get separation against starting calibre DBs and hands as issues.

Happy to see better games from Foles and Mathews.

Our defense is ugly though. There aren't a heap of players outside of our first team who really even appear to deserve to be on a NFL roster. We still get absolutely no pressure from our pass rush.

Matthews as ORTY is looking better and better... Eagles were 6-3 in games where the total topped 50.

Cooks is a shoe in for mine. Whats his odds?

Matthews isnt quite ready yet and the offense has too many mouths to feed

He won't get enough of the ball in that offence to win. Cooks is the best bet IMO

I have Cooks in my other fantasy team. Win/Win :)

Bortles for mine

Think he will start soon and has a wealth of options at WR

Think he is in a great position going forward too, especially if Joekel works out
If the jags go 3-13 with Borltes he aint winning it...

Good Riddance Henery, welcome Cody Parkey.

Got a leg on him, thats for sure.

Cody Parkey or Alex Henery: Who should the Eagles pick at kicker?
http://www.nj.com/eagles/index.ssf/...ery_who_should_the_eagles_pick_at_kicker.html

The Eagles decision at kicker just got a lot more difficult.

Rookie kicker Cody Parkey made both a 54 and 53 yard field goal on Thursday night against the New York Jets, three yards longer than any kick veteran Alex Henery has ever made in a regular season game.

With the long blast, the Eagles will now have to decide if they go with the younger, less-experienced Parkey, or the inconsistent, veteran Henery.

Who is the right choice? Here is pros and cons for both.

Alex Henery:
Pros:
If everything goes to plan, the Eagles will be playing in some big games this season. With that in mind, having the veteran Henery to kick in those moments could the difference between the Eagles advancing in the playoffs or going home. Although he has struggled in the preseason, Henery still made 23 out of 28 field goal attempts last season.

Cons: The majority of Eagles fans will tell you that the only experience Henery has is missing big field goals. Henery might be a veteran, but he came up small in the playoffs last season, missing a 48-yard field goal against the New Orleans Saints in a game the Eagles lost by two points. Henery has also had a poor training camp, missing two of his three field goal attempts this preseason -- a sign that the pressure of competing for the job has gotten in to his head.

Cody Parkey
Pros:
Parkey might have shown the coaches everything he needed to on Thursday night when he knocked in both a 54 and 53 yard field goal. The kicks might have been in a preseason game, but they were in high pressure situations. Parkey coming back and knocking down the 53-yard field goal after hitting from 54 was impressive. The kicks addressed both his leg strength and to a certain degree his ability to kick in pressure-filled situations.

Cons: The con with Parkey is an obvious one -- he is an undrafted rookie that is already on his second team. The last time the Eagles went with a rookie kicker to start the season it was Henery, but he was fourth-round pick. Going with a rookie is in some ways asking for trouble.

Sanchez on his bike already?

Philadelphia Eagles Would Be Crazy to Trade Mark Sanchez
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2177371-philadelphia-eagles-would-be-crazy-to-trade-mark-sanchez

Brand-new Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Mark Sanchez is having one hell of a preseason. Sanchez has completed 80.6 percent of his passes and has a passer rating of 112.5 in three preseason appearances.

Comp.% 68.8 80.6 62.5

INT 3 1 2

Naturally, because he's redeeming himself, because he's still only 27 and a former No. 5 overall pick, and because he's a talented quarterback with plenty of big-game experience, there's a connection being drawn between Sanchez and the St. Louis Rams, who lost quarterback Sam Bradford to a season-ending knee injury last weekend.

The tie to the Rams is especially strong because their current offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, coached Sanchez during his first three seasons with the New York Jets.

However, while it might be tempting to send a quarterback who isn't supposed to play and is only signed to a one-year contract to anyone willing to give up draft picks, the Eagles have to be stubborn here. While Nick Foles' 2013 season was one of the best in the history of the game, it was only one year from a guy who was passed on 87 times in the 2012 draft for a reason.

Philly has every reason to believe what Foles did last season—NFLrecord touchdown-to-interception ratio of 27-to-2, league-high 9.1 yards per pass attempt and the third-highest passer rating ever (119.2)—wasn't a fluke. However, nobody can guarantee he'll be close to as strong with tape out there and a bullseye on his back in 2014.

In this league, in this era, you can't win without strong play at the quarterback position. While Foles is likely going to be the man throughout this season regardless of how much his numbers drop off, quarterback insurance is a special thing to have nowadays.

In that light, let's keep in mind that Foles missed time after breaking his hand near the end of his rookie season and was forced to miss a game due to a concussion last year. He might not be fragile, but injuries happen, especially when—according to Pro Football Focus(subscription required)—you spend more time in the pocket than any other qualifying quarterback in the league. The kid takes hits.

The Eagles can't trust second-year USC product Matt Barkley, who threw four interceptions on only 49 pass attempts last season. Barkley hasn't been terrible against third-team defenders this month, but he's not in the same league as Sanchez.

"He just looks confident, in control, accurate," wrote CSN Philly's Reuben Frank earlier this preseason. "If something happened to Foles, the Eagles are in good hands with Sanchez. He’s been impressive."

The good news for Philly fans is that even Sanchez might realize he's better off with the Eagles in a backup role right now. From USA Today's Tom Pelissero:

But if Sanchez has anything to say about it, there's "no chance" he'd abandon his fresh start as a backup under coach Chip Kelly with the Philadelphia Eagles for a shot to rejoin Schottenheimer and play in St. Louis, a person with knowledge of Sanchez's thinking told USA TODAY Sports on Sunday.

Sanchez is exactly what a team like this needs in a backup. He's played in two AFC Championship Games. He's been there, done that. Did he always do it well? No, but the guy has nine touchdown passes and only three interceptions in six career playoff games, four of them wins.

Head coach Chip Kelly and the rest of the front office will, of course, listen to trade offers. If the Rams want to do something crazy like give up a first-round pick, the Eagles would have no choice but to gamble onFoles and Barkley.

However, unless they get St. Louis or anyone else to sell the farm, the idea should be to stand pat and keep a secure roster extremely stable at the most important position on the field.

Love the fact that the whole fanbase was most excited about a new Kicker :p

Kid looked good on the two long kicks. They were comfortable, and with good form.

Thanks for the article link. Don't agree with the positives the journo cites about Alex. In what world is Henery a "veteran"?? He is hardly bloody David Akers...

I can't see that he actually has any more of a proven record than Parkey. Both are effectively very young and raw.

Parkey is the better IMHO.

Wonder where some of these sports journos get their facts from...

Ravens did all right with a rookie kicker when they won 2 years ago. Not like Akers was a shining light of consistency in the playoffs for us either. Veteran hardly is a deciding factor.

Long has torn his ACL :( in his left knee. He tore his right in his senior season at Washington State. I reckon he was a good chance at the 53 man due to his ability to play Inside and Outside linebacker roles. Poor kid.
