Use sony gear with just middle of the range sigma lenses

Entered this pic in a competition run by the west australian. Strong wtf'd when it was used as a file photo about 4 years later

Used to be right into my photography. Gear is gathering a bit of dust lately due to the realities of family. I used to run off for a weekend and just walk around solo taking hundreds of shots a day.

Only took my camera a couple of times then was threatened with a kickout if i kept taking pics

Never did it again. Shame, it's a good lark, especially when it's neutrals playing

Few years back now...08 I think

Pic is quite topical although the hawks won easy that day haha

I just have a travel zoom but it is decent enough to take good pictures at the cricket ,

Waiting at Nairobi airport to head home after a 2 month holiday/photography session. Will post some of my best photos soon.

Thanks for any advice that was given before my trip, it made the photos a breeze.

Do you have any trouble getting that into the footy? Or by the angles where it seems you are very close to the ground are you a part of the media?

Nope and nope.
I checked with Patrick Keane (before he was in every news article about the AFL) about what was the exact size allowed in.
You are allowed to have up to 200mm as a lens. No restrictions on your camera.
I was sitting row A so right on the fence.

Came out alright.
Night shots are always a bit tedious.
Shot most of these on 1/320.
Would probably up the ISO next time and shoot faster.
A bit too much movement IMO.

Yep know the pain mate. If you want that real crispness you have to shoot low ISO, even an overcast day in Melbourne can be hard for getting good sports pics. The pros are running crazy low f numbers, but they aren't paying for lenses

Something like this would be nice

Thought about getting that.
No chance I'd be allowed that in despite it being under the zoom range required.
Plus it is just too expensive to be carrying around to the footy.
Have the 135L which is exceptional as well.

Just get a couple of extension tubes to go with your mid range teles. Sure you lose a stop but you don't have to lug in a big white L series lens. Anyway i don't shoot canon only nikons and the beauty with Nikkors if you want to sneak them in at the footy is they don't stand out as much.

You can shoot at 1600 iso these days and still get less noise as you used to get, well with the nikon 3x anyway.

As promised, here are some photos I took on my trip across Africa.
