But do traded in picks count as "their next pick" or was that specific to those they had prior to the trade period? I mean if they've traded out their original early picks (even if they've replaced them with others) how can they be counted towards point calculations? Isn't that why most of these clubs traded out their early picks to other clubs?
I agree with babylove's repsonse to you but would add:
1. Clubs traded out of their early picks to get more points eg when pies traded with GWS for pick 27 et al we gave them about 100 points more - is a win win because they get more points, we get earlier pick. Some of the other trades weren't as clear cut as they also involved a player but was same philosophy
2. GWS have 3267 points (assuming you correctly listed their picks). If they didn't have to use pick 10 in matching they would not have enough points to get their two highly rated players. Process will be easier to understand after seeing it in action on draft night.

Then if they have to use their pick 10 then that's not a case where our pick 27 will slide out. In fact, if clubs with academy players are forced to use their early picks then we could potentially move up the order rather than slide out.

Nobody knows exactly (a) which club will bid for academy/FS players & which pick they bid (b) which Bids will be matched.
So the precise impact on our selection 27 is an unknown at this moment.

Why do we have Pick 31? We have Pick 27

Why do we have Pick 31? We have Pick 27
Because the Academy clubs will use their late picks (stockpiled) to match bids for their academy players.
For example, Melbourne bid their pick 3 for Callum Mills, Sydney then match that bid with picks 34, 37, 38 & 45.
Hence Sydney secure Callum Mills, so Melbourne then pick again, this time at pick 4.
So all picks pushed back 1 pick.
The same will happen for other academy players (4 or 5 of them), hence our pick goes back to approx 31.
We will only find out on draft day, exactly how many spots we slide back.

GWS will most likely use pick 10 for academy matching...so doesn't affect our pick.
Brisbane will not use pick 2 for academy matching, their next pick is 38, so if other clubs bid (before our pick 27) then Brisbane will use their later picks to match & effectively jump ahead of our selection, pushing us back 1 pick.

Must admit I know nothing about the 3 players he has got us selecting so will have to check them out. Morgan is very pacey isn't he?

What I did notice was that he has Ryan Burton getting awfully close to our first pick. Two more spots please! Has his stocks fallen that much?

Mason Redmond and Aidyn Johnson aren't far away from us too and have been talked up as possible selections.

Declan Mountford was also spoken about to be of interest to us (by Scout on EB&W) and he is taken by Essendon just before our 2nd pick. If he gets to our 2nd we might pounce on the back of testing really well at the combine.

He hasn't got the Frost upgrade either at 70 which was probably an oversight.

I don't know enough about the draftees to comment on their prospects, Knightmare would know more.
Hine may use 3 live picks (27, 66 & 77), hence the upgrade for Frost may be pick 83.
The 66 & 77 picks will come forward to mid to late 50's picks (with academy clubs spending their picks on academy players & some other clubs commencing to pass in the 50-60's range.

The plan does seem as you've stated.

The plan is use those first three picks and upgrade Frost. With the option to take a fourth (against the odds) if we see someone we want to senior list, that we may not see being available come the rookie draft.

Regarding those players mentioned.

Alex Morgan is an overager. Has played very little through injury. Production has been mild at best. But he has AFL qualities with his pace and ability to take on the game as well as come composure with ball in hand as someone who can avoid tackles and dance with ball in hand as well as use it reasonably. Given his mild production I'm not so excited, particularly when talking about our first selection.

Burton is a productive tall leadup forward but has failed but I'm struggling to see what he can do at AFL level as not tall enough to be a key forward, or really have the style of game to be compatible as a key forward. Then doesn't have the midfield ability. So even forgetting injuries I'm not as keen on him as others seem to be. Capable as he is overhead, and reliable ball user as he is.

Mason Redman is a nice tall fwd/mid. Improved over the course of the season and has shown signs without dominating in any one area of the game. He is more a developing tall utility but for me probably at this point lacks a definite point of difference to be overly excited about.

Aidyn Johnson has pace and can take on the game. Has missed most of this season with injury. But production has only been mild when he has played.

Mountford is a productive mid who can play a bit outside a bit inside. Doesn't have a major point of difference and is more a high work rate type.

Thanks Knightmare you don't sound very excited by those listed there at all. If you were to take off your unbiased hat and put on your Pies supporter hat who do you really want for us at 27?

Of those realistic options. And 50/50 to be there but Luke Partington for me is the pick at 27. High level accumulator but has very good pace and skills and offers good scoreboard impact. Good inside/outside balance. And not sub 180cm. He relatively the guy I'd be most excited to hear us read out on draft day at the 11th rated talent on my draft board (one position ahead of Darcy Parish).

I like it. If Partington is your man I'm on board too. According to Brett Anderson's mock he is likely to be there for us at our first pick too (has him to GC two picks after us).

Would be another SA boy to add to our burgeoning Croweater stocks too!

Kerbatieh not listed above?

I was going off the names from the above quote. Kerbatieh is a goal first, goal second, think about doing something else 3rd type small forward. Has a long kick, quick but poor endurance and you can tell he has a real ego about the way he plays - which can be a good and bad thing.

And we shall know in a Couple of weeks.

I hear the call for partington - if hes avaiable when he could be ours, he will bewearing the 35 jumper.

Sam Weideman!
If Eddie can't rig the draft, what use is he?

Sorry KM, I meant from Brett Anderson's Phantom draft.

From your description, sounds like Kerbatieh is similar to a younger Fas

Kerbatieh similarly has that look at me feel and a penetrating kick. The differences are that Kerbatieh is smaller as a sub 180cm guy who doesn't have the same ability overhead or 1v1 strength, not that many smalls do. But Kerbatieh has the better certainly quickness.

I like the look of Alex Morgan.

This is the American female soccer star yeah?

Mad Dog Morgan would be a great pick up for us.

Mad Dog Morgan would be a great pick up for us.
Poor guy, doesn't matter what he says or how he acts...
He could be an introverted, tree hugging, chess playing Sunday school teacher...but his nickname would still be mad dog. Get him!

No more list changes (I assume) after the 2nd list lodgement yesterday.
No DFA likely, so we use picks 27, 66 & 77 live picks (upgrade Frost with 83) then take 3 rookie picks.

So with Hine using 4 live picks (plus 1 for Frost upgrade), we have a senior list of 39.
Hence we will go with 5 Cat A rookies & 2 Cat B rookies.
So the rookie draft we shall add 2 more players (in addition to Keeffe & Thomas).

Senior: 31 plus Frost, Treloar, Aish, Howe, Sier, Phillips, Wills & Crocker
Cat A rookie: Gault plus 2 live picks, plus Keeffe & Thomas
Cat B rookie: Cox & Wyatt

Total 39 + 5 + 2 = 46

Do we rookie Golds?
