AFL Club
North Melbourne
In light of North Melbourne's disappointing performance this year, the club has launched a new promotion for player sponsors – offering them the opportunity to coach the team in 2015. Two lucky Big Footy Player Sponsors will each be able to coach the team for a week.

The lucky winner will take responsibility for all aspects of the senior coaching job, but the club wants to emphasise that this is a very demanding role and it may be impractical to expect the winner to do all aspects of the job well, so there may be insufficient time develop young players, to drop players who have underperformed, or have players turn up for a match with "the right attitude". This is ok and it is also ok to be unable to explain why these things happen, as long as they are an aberration and a robust review of performance takes place in forensic detail after each match. It is also important to understand that, if the team gets beaten by 10 goals by another team that has only won one game, this is because our best is good enough to challenge the best teams...even though the best teams also beat us by 10 goals.

Key Activities for the Prize Winner:

Team Selection: Selecting enough 30+ year old players so that good young players are unable to get a game

Player Development: Ensuring young players are not overdeveloped through overexposure to AFL football

Confidentiality: Ensuring the game plan remains confidential by making it impossible to understand for players and supporters

Personnel Management: Ensure players you like have their contracts extended. As the team has few elite runners, it is especially important that these are well managed. The soft ones must be promoted into the leadership group, but if they can tackle and win a contested ball they must be traded to Collingwood. If players are good runners and skilful, they must not play for two weeks.

Post Game Reviews: Must be in forensic detail, but does not require anything to actually change

Game Day Coaching: This is not currently considered part of the senior coach’s role.

Study Tours for the development of best practice - e.g. Woolworths to study turnstiles, Molasses Manufacturers for ball movement. A visit to Pyongyang is under consideration to improve the players dedication to flag flying.

Game Day Performance: It is essential that four quarters of high quality football be played, although the four quarters may be spread over the course of a season. The performance of the players can be addressed when convenient, but any issues with the roof at Etihad must be addressed immediately. It may also be necessary to kick a security guard.

Apologies to Gokangas for releasing details of the competition prematurely. Enter below by posting in 100 words or less why you deserve the prize.
