Well, no. If it was a 30-50 point win, that's fair enough. Carlton were ridiculously awful, if it was another team/coach it might even have been a coach-killing game.

I know they have a big support base, but if the blues get another four or five friday night games next year and the dogs have none it will be a travesty (apologies for the parochialism).

You know we get all the night games.

Sunday night, Thursday, Monday nights which are all pretty terrible so we aren't exactly blessed in this regard.

Anyway Carlton had a bunch of kids with less then 10 games running around and Murphy/Yarran got injured. Even Geelong got 110ed by Sydney which shows what can happen in these kind of circumstances. It was a dead rubber game as well for Carlton.

It's why Malthouse basically told the media to get stuffed when they asked why Carlton weren't playing all the kids.

Port beat Freo and they'll have to back up against Sydney in Sydney - so fourth is a bit like getting a machine gun in danger games, only to find the bullets are hidden elsewhere. Mind you, lose, come fifth, and they may meet the Crows team, fresh from a home game against 18th. Not easy for Port either way. Could even come fourth, lose to Sydney and then play the Crows.
