They go alright, my old man had one for years when we went camping, powered a small fridge, TV/radio, cooking equipment whatever really.

They look to have gotten smaller, cheaper and made different material than when we used them but the thing is they were bloody noisy, forget it at a caravan park because neighbours will whinge, we only used it in wilderness and had it as far away as cord would allow, buried in a hole 1 foot deep we dug, then you couldn't hear it.

I'm not sure what the best is now, but another option a mate does is have 2 batteries on his 4wd and an inverter, 1 battery powers things while the other battery charges the other battery... you obviously can't do this all day though. Will do a toaster, hair dryer or a light at night for a few hours though and no noise.
