Possibly doing a semester abroad

What other Accommodation options did you look at ?

I'm interested in heading to the Gold Coast and Bond Uni When i finish year 12

I had the option of living on campus, at Varsity Shores which is a building pretty much next to campus, and here at the Meriton, but I think the Meriton option is only available to those that are studying abroad through the Education Abroad Network.

I'm going to Bond next year, and being an 18 year old with over-protective parents, I'm staying on campus!

Asking for a Gold Coast membership for Christmas, whats the best value membership?

Oh and one more thing. Whats the quickest/most economical way to get to Metricon from Bond via public transport?

Cheers guys!

Really depends on your situation. I know last year they offered memberships which entitled you to attend any 3 games of your choice for around $75 but not sure if that will be the case next year. If you were looking to attend every game next year then getting a membership will definitely make it cheaper although I cannot remember how much it would cost for a full season membership. One of the Suns posters on here I'm sure would have more information and will let you know.

As for transport you should check out this link - http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/metricon-stadium-gold-coast.963012/, the bottom post (my post) explains how to get to Metricon. In your case I would suggest taking the route 748 bus from Bond University bus stop to Nerang Station. From there they offer free shuttles from Nerang Station to Metricon 2 hours prior to each game. The trip will probably take you around 30 minutes all up to get to the Metricon. Here is a link to the timetable for the bus you would like to be on - http://translink.com.au/resources/travel-information/network-information/timetables/080728_748.pdf.

Being a student you will receive half priced fairs on the bus (usually you will have to show your student card) so all up it should cost around $5 to get there and back using that bus. Although being 18 years old I would presume you would have some interest in going out after some games on a Saturday night and Metricon does allow for that. A shuttle bus from the stadium to Cavill Avenue, Surfers Paradise (where most of the nightclubs are) is provided so you should also look into that. Getting back to Bond University from Surfers Paradise could be a little tricky but I'm sure you could work it out (if not just ask me).

Oh and another thing, being from Melbourne (I presume) you will notice people are are nowhere near as into AFL as they are down there. Just be weary that Rugby League is number 1 here and supporting AFL can be frowned upon in some social circles. You'll catch on to it eventually but being prepared is a good thing. There is a good chance your boys from Hawthorn will be here next year so hopefully you get to see them and hopefully you enjoy our city :)

And last one for now, which is the best Melbourne Cup race to go to? And by best of course, I mean best party day.
I'll be honest, I have read this post a few times and it still doesn't make 100% sense to me. Gold Coast Turf Club in Bundall is probably the best place to fully soak up the atmosphere of Melbourne Cup day. Drinking, watching races at the Turf Club and the races in Melbourne on TV pretty sums up the day, I hope this is what you wanted to know?

How are you finding the city so far? I'm sure it has been a dramatic difference to Denver (I think that's where you were from).

Haha, I probably could've worded that better. I was asking if all the races are as crazy party wise as the Melbourne Cup is, I'll be attending the AAMI Derby Day and was hoping that it was a good day out as well.

Love it here so far, the beach being two blocks away will never cease to make me smile. Still have tons of things to do on my list, going to do the Q1 Climb soon. What would you recommend in terms of bars (that actually fill up)? Sometimes me and my friends are just not in the mood for clubs, so we've been experimenting with places like Waxy's and Fiddler's, but to be honest I'm not too crazy about either.

Lastly, thank Allah for the MBD deli.

Good to hear. There are lots of activities the Gold Coast offers that are probably worth looking at before you leave. There are 4 main theme parks in order of best to worst - Dreamworld, Wet n Wild, Movie World and Sea World (might be considered a bit childish but I would say it is worth a look if you don't plan on coming back here). Three of those four theme parks are all located very close to one another where as Sea World is located in Main Beach. Aside from the beaches, which are a huge attraction, Robina Town Centre is probably worth a look as well.

As for bars there are an array of options. Broadbeach offers quite a few restaurant/bars like 1two3, Moo Moos or Altos. The Prince Albert bar at Jupiters casino is usually filled up on Fridays and Saturday nights as well as the bars that are in the gaming area of the Casino and just outside. Mermaid Tavern is also another bar that quite regularly fills up on weekends and that is located just south of Pacific Fair on the Gold Coast Highway. The Beer Garden in Surfers Paradise offers a Bar/Nightclub feel where there are sometimes live bands and other times club music. It all depends on your taste and what you like. There are lots of bars/taverns on the Gold Coast but I just tried to tell you about some in your immediate vicinity.

Thanks a heap Matchu , answered all my questions. Good man. :)

No worries. I'm sure you'll love it up here.

Again, as always, thanks for the help. Funnily enough, Beer Garden has become our number one spot, although it does seem like every cover band in Australia has the same 90s playlist. Will definitely check out Mermaid Tavern and the Prince Albert, seeing as how they're so close. Already got my Sherrin, by the way, but I have to go to the League field at the school down the block on Surf Parade. Might even go all out and get a yellow one too before my time is up here.

Spent plenty of time at the Beer Garden during my years at Bond, awesome venue if your not quite so into the club scene, glad to hear its still going strong. I miss the days when Varsity Tavern used to do $5 bee jugs and $10 spirit jugs, they also did a pretty awesome burritos and beer special!
