Pre-season 2014/2015

Eli, Saad, Sinclair, Lee and Membrey can all play round 1 in the same team.
Membrey, Sinclair and Eli all play up the ground whilst Lee and Saad play at FF.

Their gona want to get as much footy into these guys as possible with players like Paddy and White, Curren, Murdoch, and Bruce all gona be pushing for forward spots too. Pressure for spots up forward for a change is great.

I dont think Schinder will get promoted unless theres a LTI to a small forward. Saadys ahead of him for sure...

Gears is ripping it up. Was injured all last season. Is a 70+ dtp player every week when fit.

Question is how do we get Wright and Shenton into the team? Gilbert and Fisher are 10 game a year players now so there will be opportunities.

Lets just cross our fingers and prey that we finally start to get a fair run with injuries this year and next.
I wonder how much Sandy is paying to win the vfl next season. Could be a really good team.

At the sponsors morning Gilbert said that Schnider would play round one. I'm not sure if he was backing in an old mate, being funny or serious but take from it what you will. I said he should watch out for Saad's car backing out of the car park to Schnider and he laughed and said it's all good having some competition for spots.

He lost an year due to 5th metatarsal. They just should have put him on lti, in the first place.

It won't be the same again, but I am confident, that he can recapture his form.

He just had 2 very different injuries.

A knee in 2013 and a foot in 2014. Not ideal, but definitely, nothing that is recurring. I've broken my 5th metatarsal twice - so I do have some experience - I broke it in May last year, and still managed to run 10km in the Melbourne marathon (end October). So, I am very confident that Gilbert can get over his foot issues.

Thank god someone gets it.

I was interested in how well Chapman went in changing from the Cats to Essendon. I always wonder how much damage the hard ground at Etihad does.

I'd personally love to to Sinclair come from the clouds and play round one. Remember he is the same age as Eli, Billings, Acres and Dunstan.

In reality, I think it's more likely to be Saady.
I read this week's Inside Football, where they rate every footballer and they gave Sinclair a really good rap

Dunstan played round one because his body was ready from sanfl playing. Likewise Eli's tank is exceptional already and Billings was more for just a taste of the big time. I doubt Sinclair would be ready for round 1 and will propably require time in the VFL.

Except he was playing VFL at the end of the year, for Port Melbourne no less, and got a VERY big rap from Ayers. Port, as a standalone team, is very much focussed on having men, not boys, in their side most of the time, so that he even got to play with them, near the end of the season when they were trying to secure a finals spot, tells you something.

When I met Blake Acres he also hinted that Schneider would play early.

+1

The word coming out of Port was that he was the best 23rd man they have seen ever, and Ayres was keen to sign him to Port Melbourne. Reading between the lines, I think some thanks is due to Mark Smart, the ex Talent Manager for Oakleigh Chargers and now part of the St Kilda recruitment team for Sinclair making it on to our list.

I note the article today about Jack Newnes wanting to get to 83 kg so he can impact as an inside mid. Sinclair came on to the list at 80kg I think and showing some really good muscle mass. So he is starting from a solid base physically.

Aside from all his other attributes though I think it is his cool head plus elite kicking ability off both feet that makes him really versatile. Again go back to his player thread and watch the footage from his draft profile, I guarantee you will like what you see from a foot disposal point of view.

We know what Saad can be...a nimble goal kicking forward who can use his speed to apply good defensive pressure. But Sinclair has got the potential to be a clearance specialist or a running quarterback with elite defensive skills. Newnes may be the next Sidebottom. But Sinclair could be a Swan.

Not denying your story, but I find it hard to believe that a 3 game 2nd year player would have this information.

I take your point. My line of enquiry with Blake was about Jack Sincalir, which led to a brief look at the rookie list, then Blake expressed an opinion that Schneider was the most likely to be used early if an opportunity arose. It does provide some insight into what the team may be thinking though as I am sure Blakes opinion would be guided by what he sees and hears around the club.

Unlike my opinion which is that of an outsider looking in.

That I didnt know. Certainly pushes him up a bit in selection chances.

Schneider being the first option to upgrade makes sense to me. He has seniority and was playing some pretty good footy later in the year, while Saad and Sinclair would have to really train the house down to push Schneids out of the team.

What later end of the year were you watching? No way was he playing good footy. I like Scchneids but he was struggling especially in the back half of the season.

Pretty good might have been a bit too positive but I think he was doing enough to keep his spot. He was still getting a game ahead of Saunders (and possibly Minchi - I can't remember when his upgrade ended) but we did have a shitload of injuries towards the back end of the year so that might have saved him.

If one of the others gets the upgrade ahead of Schneids I think it will be more because they have demanded the spot and less cause Scheids lost it.

Dazza's upgrade ended by that time.

Speaking of him he is flying under the radar! forgot all about him.

Bring Schneider out for the tougher games and let the kids soak up the experience from the easier ones. Ideally he should play about 10 games this year overall.

It's interesting because we've pretty much confirmed that Siposs will be a LTI so we have the opportunity to upgrade a rookie. I still think it's a two horse race between Sinclair and Saad. The latter is obviously the most 'ready' body-wise and has the runs on the board, but coming off a long AFL break he needs a decent few weeks in the VFL before playing in the seniors. Sinclair, on the hand, has some VFL experience, and could be good to go from the start if the coaches believe he's trained well enough. I'd certainly expect both to play in the AFL at some stage this season, barring a horrific injury.

Schneider wouldn't come into calculations, imo. He's mainly there in a training/coaching capacity and I don't think he'll be playing many senior games unless our injury list resembles that of last year.

The thing is though, we don't need to upgrade anyone for round 1 unless they are actually going to play that game. So if the games Saad gets in the NAB Challenge or VFL praccy games in the lead-up to round 1 aren't enough, we could still wait another week or two before making the decision, unless of course Sinclair is going so well that we want him in the team for round 1 (which would mean he's probably pushed ahead of the likes of Curren, Saunders and Minch, who are all in at least their 3rd year at the club).

This is NOT the public service

You're right and so i'm still tipping Saad for the upgrade eventually, but I wouldn't at all be surprised if Sinclair makes into the team early on in the year.

I still can't get over when on the wing/half forward at Gold Coast instead of putting his head over the ball he tried some stupid soccer off the ground, and missed. I love schneids, but * that pissed me off so much.
