Printing from Apple to Windows printer on the network: has it ever been done?

Seems that unless you are an actual Apple or Windows technician this is completely ******* impossible.

You mean like this or this? As far as I'm aware they'll just connect to a standard Microsoft network printer queue, unless there's a driver issue somewhere.

What does/doesn't it do?
Does it not connect?
Does it try to print and give an error?
Does it say it's successful but nothing comes out?

Just had a comical exchange with someone on the Apple support forum. It ended with a thinly disguised "well you chose windows so suck it!".

Wipe everything and start again, using guest/guest as auth details.

Yep, you should have overpaid for an apple device that would do it all easily

Check your permissions on the print share, add "everyone" and try again.

I finally found the solution: Pull the printer cable out from the desktop, plug it into the laptop and print.
