I've seen a lot of people complain that the ice bucket challenge doesn't raise awareness for ALS because people don't know that that's what it's for.

However, I've only seen one or two people genuinely not know what it's for. Why are there so many campaigning on behalf of so few? I feel the same way when the 'people will be offfended by this' crowd outnumber the actual offended by 100-1.
Saying 'oh it's for ALS' doesn't mean they're actually aware of what ALS Is...
 
Steve-o of all people got it right, that a lot of celebs are just doing it to look cool and being in the fad and not knowing or caring what it's about. Linking to how they can donate to ALS themselves would help the cause as well instead of just name dropping who they know.
