GFC needed a kick up the backside IMO - and this is it. They need to seriously have a good look at all aspects of the club and see what they can do better.

I think that we have stalled our fall down the ladder by keeping older players but at the cost of not developing youngsters - and now it will come back to bite us.

Bad decisions have been made - but that is now in the past and we need look forward to what we can do so next season so we improve. Forget this year - we are so far off top 4 its nearly embarrassing. But that is ok with me as long as we are doing all we can to get better.
Time for a coach review? ;)
It's all coming together quite nicely- Richmond next week...

The only debate to be assessed in retrospect will be .....should Geelong have pruned harder...fall fast , and stock up and hope to bounce.... or do we refuse to yield to gravity , we transition , we calibrate , re tune and refine , we redress ....

Only one club can win a flag a year , one club must finish bottom. Even in a homogenised , sterilised , socialistic comp A team may finish top with 15 wins and team may finish bottom with 12...its still bottom. Era is a commonly used bit of jargon, to frame a reference ..the start and the finish depends on that ref.. Did it start with Thompson , with the appointment of Harely , with 99,01 drafts.... , with Ottens?

Did it start with Selwood? Certainly without him there would be no doubt that that period was done and over.

The truth is very few Premierships are won without additions of some sort. Taylor was an add after 07 , yet was key in 09 and 11.

Any sembelnce of football knowledge would know we are not the team were were. To make a comment in itself , is so obvious as to not be worthy special recognition.
You make great points, as always TC, very considered + thought provoking.
Today's Hun stated that yesterday's win by North was eight years after they won in Rd5 2007 + they are the:

". . . first Victorian club to carry four points back to the big smoke . . .

That was the week before the Cats’ golden era began."

For me the era doesn't begin with one single event, it is the contribution of all you've mentioned, which resulted in the 07 Premiership + continued until 2012, as Mooney said.

To have so many veterans retire since 2011, to move on premiership players, the blooding of Kittens, the long, long term injuries, the ageing of our vets, the topping up of the team with older, slightly suspect players, the depleted team from injuries + exhaustion in pursuit of Top 4 - it really is quite amazing we succeeded for another three years.

What? You've given them guns, Daz???
;):D
Of course Daz has given his girls guns, they live in America! ;) They probably tote a .458 Winchester Magnum in one hand + RPG in the other :D

I've just finished reading page one + am thinking WOW! Amazing comments everyone: I'm relishing the cogent opinions; thoughtful analysis; constructive criticism; proactive solutions; + tempered reactions. No drama queens! JUBJUB would be happy. Just want to thank you for your contributions, I'm feeling very reassured.

One often forgotten , or at least not often referenced part of that success not only the pain of 04 and 05.... but the poor year we had in 06. So even with the great group that we had assembled , that had played finals two years in a row succumbed to a poor year ( no matter the reason) and finished to give us a chance at getting one more good player. It became Selwood and Hawkins.

So identifying the kids we want to move forward with , take the winless games on the chin and still keep moving forward , and maybe getting an earlier look at the draft is something that has happened in times past. The only issue these days is how that affects list build in respect of fa. so in the theme of the op , "over reaction" to results will happen this year , get rid of him , toss him out... so coolness under fire is important too. Faith to stay the course.

Wow, your lack of football knowledge is mind blowing. Make sure you let the gfc know how we can get shiels for free, I'm sure they'll be interested.

I meant prize them free from their current clubs.

Can you please point out in my post where I have indicated a 'lack of football knowledge' which is 'mindblowing'. I have listed potential targets which I believe would offer value at the right price.

Maybe you are a little hurt about my comment of thurlow vs grundy. The truth hurts I guess
