Thoughts? Post yours, interesting to see how close we get.

Before I looked at the Odds yesterday I thought Rance would be odds on to get the most for us, but crownbet has him at over $20. Was going to put a cheeky $10 on but surely he is no chance if they rate him that far adrift.

I don't rate the Brownlow, reason being that the umpires only see kicks, handballs and goals, they totally ignore the fact that a player could get 30 touches but 20 of them went to the opposition, all they see is the 30, last year in our second clash with Essendon, Heppell was the 3rd worst on the ground for DE % but was deemed good enough for the 3 votes despite most of his possessions being hack kicks to contests and Hail Mary handballs.

Rance will be lucky to get get 6 votes despite having an awesome year Its the lament of being a defender and getting recognition/lack of via brownlow votes

It's still has a place, if only for the event itself and the game has enough awards non umpire given. You are quite correct in believing that the umpires are not best placed to give votes.
Dustin Martin 29 votes - WINNER!

The whole system is flawed when you consider a player can win the Brownlow even if he doesn't play for most of the season, but plays 6-8 good games polling in each. But a player who plays 22 games and consistently performs at around 4th best on ground will get no votes, even though he made more of a contribution then the player who only played 6-8 good games.

Rance will get 10+ votes, it might not seem like much but for a Defender that would be a fantastic effort. It's a midfielder's award but he will attract some votes I reckon. He was BOG in Round 2 but it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't get any because the umpires usually only vote towards the winning team, which is bullshit.

I've got a real feeling Rance will poll well.
I don't see his year as a normal one for defenders.
How many games do you go to where he actually stands out like a beacon charging out of defence all day, marking everything.
He'd have to stand out to some degree.
Obviously mids get most votes but in our team in particular I reckon Rancey would be at the pointy end of discussions regarding votes.
I haven't really rated Martins year as highly as others but he does seem to attract votes.

Cotchin and Deledio to both poll above 14 but under 18

Martin between 11 and 13

Jack between 7 and 9

Edit: These are the Deledio brownlow votes predictions I wrote up a couple of weeks ago after watching a bunch of the replays. Could arguably get 3 in both his first appearances vs. Coll and Ess. Might not poll at all in a lot of these games, it's a difficult system to predict, which I dislike, but at the sae time it makes it more exciting.

2 votes vs. Collingwood,
1 vote vs. Port,
2 votes vs Essendon,
1 vote vs Sydney,
1 vote vs. Carlton,
3 votes vs. St. Kilda,
3 votes vs. Hawthorn,
2 votes vs. GC,
1 vote vs. Collingwood,
3 votes vs. Essendon,
3 votes. vs North Melbourne
