Review Round 12 - Box Hill Hawks v Williamstown, Sun, 2pm, 30 June 2013 @ BHCO

Finally, after almost a month after their last home game, the league-leading Box Hill Hawks return to Box Hill City Oval to play the Seagulls. The Hawks cannot afford to slip up at home, with both the Cats and the Scorpions nipping at their heels, sitting only percentage behind the Hawks. Further, Williamstown sit just one game behind the Hawks in fourth place, so this game is a real eight-pointer for both clubs.

The Hawks may well have a secret weapon for them out there on Sunday.

In the development league, the Box Hill Hawks face off against the second side on the ladder as the Hawks strive to keep their unbeaten streak alive. The development squad kicks off the dew from 11.00am.

As always, the boys from 3WBC 94.1FM will cover the game on the transistor radio and online at www.3wbc.org.au from 1pm.

Teams will follow.

Developlenty squad lost by almost 40 points from memory. Senior side been playing very poorly and down by 46 points late in the third quarter. The midfield has been non-existent. Spangher has tried hard up forward but has had little assistance.

Lowden needs to realise that as a ruckman he needs to get his hands dirty.

Only reached the ground by the end of the development squad game, so saw Willy kick a goal on the siren.

Seniors kept Willy scoreless in the last to gain a measure of respectability but were outclassed all game by a hungrier bunch of Seagulls. Jarrad Grant murdered Boseley all game. Pratt was poorly disciplined in the first quarter giving away two goals from dumb frees. Lowden and Grimley were poor in the ruck and kept finding Willy players with their taps. Grimley offered something around the ground but Lowden needs to realise that his job doesn't end with the tap. He offers little around the ground and when he did have it, he specialised in the Ellis 15 metr chip passes.

Iles and Lock were industrious in midfield but their skills were not up to scratch with the pressure exerted by the Willy players. Hallahan was beaten well and Osborne barely touched it. Wanganeen's future probably isn't with Hawthorn; he just doesn't impact the scoreboard often enough to be a specialist forward pocket and he never played midfield today.

Just got back from the game , very disappointing performance from Box Hill and agree with most of what Dixie said.

Ossie tried hard and showed some fire , and when he got the ball he used it well ... Grimley, Lowden, Cheney were disappointing.

Hallahan copped an off the ball elbow from number 43 (i think) from willy in the first and was barely sighted after that .

Litherland was probably my best thought he showed a bit .. other than that a very disappointing day ... Williamstown went into the last with a very defensive mindset and didn't score in the last which gave us some respectability we probably didn't deserve.

i saw that hit on Hallahan goal ump was like did anyone see that... was a big hip an shoulder... would get you 2 weeks if seen or on tally.

was abit let down by derick wanganeen, showed little, gone backwards from last year?

Spanger kicked 4 goals is a highlight. Boxhill and our development sides must have had the losses they needed to have, glad the big hawks haven't had the loss they needed to have yet.

Yeah the box hill boys never looked like winning, they were 2nd to the ball all game.dissapointig effort really ,good players few and far between.....spanger easily our best though he did not play in the last quarter but looked ok walking up the race.

How did Litherland perform today

I thought he was very average today. Poor disposal and easily led to the ball. I think he started on Addison, who easily beat him. Not his best game. I know he has had some big wraps on him but today he looked a long way off AFL standard. Really only Spangher could hold up his head after today's performance.

A sensational day for footy. City Oval is in beautiful condition, a zephyr occasionally wafted across the ground. Really quick game and of the best standard I have seen this season. We were down on players and it was a good day to see who would stand up. And we were flogged.

We were flogged in the middle of the ground and our defenders did well to limit the damage.

Spang was very good as a permanent forward. Kicked 4, could have kicked more. They took him off halfway through the third to preserve him.

Kelly played the best game I have seen from him. Very hard at the ball and as usual his ball usage was very good.

Litherland fumbled all day yet his ball disposal was excellent. The kid really has a big hoof.

Cheney pretty solid. Wang appalling. Bose was on Grant and covered him but did not offer much more.

Our rucks were poor, bordering on clueless. Grim rucking meant he has nothing in the tank left to make multiple leads. He was forced to go body on body and he doesn't have the body.

Ossie was off a wing and floated in and out. He seems injured then he will burst at the footy. He is NQR.

Keep on eye on a kid named Mitch O'Donnell. I liked him last week, like him more this week.

Hallahan seemed to be physically targeted. High praise indeed. He got belted a few times and did not see out the second Q. Prior to that he was badly exposed for pace.
