Review Round 15: Werribee Tigers v Box Hill Hawks, 26 July 2015, 2.00pm @ Avalon Airport Oval

The Hawks, fresh from destroying Coburg by 100 points, are on the road again this round with a trip over the West Gate Bridge to Werribee to play the Tigers. The Tigers lost a tight game against the Seagulls at home last weekend and will be desperate to not lose at home for a second straight week. Further more, they need a win to stay inside the top eight, being a game clear of Port Melbourne in eighth place and a game behind (in order) Footscray, Essendon, Casey Scorpions and Collingwood.

Of course, the Hawks sit proudly on top of the VFL ladder after 12 completed rounds, a game clear of Williamstown and Sandringham (with the Gulls having played an extra game) with 10 wins from the season. Unfortunately, they'll have to do without Alex Woodward, who tore his ACL for a third time last round. Further, depending on how Hawthorn approaches the game against Carlton tomorrow night, some VFL regulars may also be given a run at senior level.

The development squad, yet to lose a match this season, will play the curtain raiser against the Werribee reserves at 11am at Avalon Airport Oval.

As per usual, 3WBC 94.1FM will have a live call of the game with coverage starting from 1pm. You can stream the game from their website www.3wbc.org.au or through the TuneIn app on your smart device. Additionally, the Box Hill Hawks will provide regular updates of both the development squad and senior games at their twitter account: www.twitter.com/boxhillhawks.

Teams to follow later today.

It very good to see O'Brien and Sicily have been selected in positions which will benefit their development. The strength of the senior team is highlighted by the quality of all the BHH listed players on the extended bench. The only BHH players missing in action this week who have played senior footy are Ayden Kennedy [knee] and Liam Tobin [hamstring] so the list is in good shape.

Good to see Shem performing really well. Still a way off AFl standard but excellent for him to play regular BHH seniors. Good to see TOB on the BF. The strength of both lists is ridiculous when you look at the ins we will have over the next month. Shiels, Langford, Stratton, Duryea all to come back into Hawthorn or BHH seniors very soon. Hopefully another repeat of 2013 with a double flag, maybe the Dev squad can kick another point or 2 this time.

This made me laugh. The tallest forward line we could select at that level & quite possibly the shortest half-forward line.

Hardisty has a clear future as a gun CHF....Still growing & another spurt will do the trick.;)

Be interesting to see if Chip is removed given both Spangher's injury & the short 5 day turn-around....Would also like to see Jed rested & unleashed on the Tigers next Friday night.

I think they may want Chip to play a half of footy.

I'd like to see Jed string a couple of good games together first. Last week was a very good start. If he can do this, who knows, he may be pushing for a spot come finals...

Schoey's improvement as a forward?

Schoey's improvement as a forward?

No.

It is just a development thing.

Sicily is going to have to be far more than just a HFF if he wants a serious AFL career. Playing him around the backline or letting him have run in the ball is an imperative so see if he can develop true versatility.

TOB being named in defence is just a little in-house joke, a bit line the HF line nominations. TOB spent a bit of time down back early in the year when we were short of defensive talls and the results were not pretty. However, it does not hurt to throw a young forward down back so that he can see the game from a defender's perspective or to just to follow a good forward around to see how it is done, although the latter is far more applicable to AFL level were you have good forwards to tag and you are a weak team who is tanking anyway.

If TOB runs around a bit in defence today and that is a possibility if Frawley only plays a half, then that will be purely a part of his ongoing footballing education. However, if the game gets tight which I expect it will be at some stage, then TOB will be paying forward where he can make the most productive contribution to the team's performance. After all, he was not that bad last week as a forward, so why flirt with his elusive form?

Full Time in the Development game.
