The Hawks finish the home & away season with a match at home to Preston (nee the Northern Blues). The Hawks cannot be dislodged from the top four even if they lose this game, but could sneak into second spot on the ladder should they win and both Footscray and Williamstown lose their last matches of the home & away season.
However, the Hawks know that winning form is good form, especially leading into a possible qualifying final against the top of the ladder Port Melbourne in the first week of the finals, so they will be keen to avoid a potential banana skin in the Blues. Carlton's affiliate has nothing to play for but pride, being out of contention for the place in the finals, but with some of Carlton's lesser players looking to their future, they'll be keen for a good hit-out against the reigning VFL premiers.
The Blues were embarrassed last weekend by Port Melbourne to the tune of almost 11 goals in Preston, so that will add extra motivation to avoid the same result this time.
In order for the Hawks to finish second, they must beat the Blues and hope that Richmond can knock off Footscray at Whitten Oval and for Sandringham to defeat Williamstown. Should Box Hill beat the Blues but Footscray and Williamstown both beat their respective opponents, then Box Hill will play Port Melbourne in the first week of the finals. Should Box Hill beat the Blues but one of Footscray and Williamstown lose, then Box Hill will finish third and play either Footscray or Williamstown (depending on which club wins).
The Development Squad kick the dew off the ground at 10am.
Please note that this is a live broadcast game throughout Victoria on ABC-1 from 1pm and there will be an archive of the game available through iView for two weeks post the game. You'll need to be clever with VPN should you wish to access iView from outside Australia.
