Uhh... Origin is the biggest game(s) in rugby league. Goldmine for money making.... but it's State of Origin not a chance for advertising.

Actually St. George-Illawarra claim 16 premierships. They've won 1..We don't count the premierships won prior to the formation of NRL
Which team won those extra 15? Illawarra or St. George?Actually St. George-Illawarra claim 16 premierships. They've won 1.
St. George. Illawarra merged with them in the superleague eraWhich team won those extra 15? Illawarra or St. George?
Rationalisation era, just after SL but yeah. The Merged club have no claim to the premierships, just like Wests Tigers have 1 premiership. Souths however still have 20, despite being kicked out from 2000-01 we are the same club as 1908-1999, we were re-instated rather than re-formed.St. George. "combined together"...Apparently Illawarra wasn't a merger. They combined together.
It wasn't a full merger if you will. They just added Illawarra to the bottom of the Original St.George logo and kept the V. Nowadays games are played in Kogarah and Illawarra and there is also homage to their home playing strip which is their away strip now."combined together"...
merge
məːdʒ/
verb
- combine or cause to combine to form a single entity.
So they tookover Illawarra? So then they were playing most of their games at WIN Stadium why? I think you'll find all post 1998 clubs (save for the Titans and the Eagles revert back to Manly) were merged entities, and new clubs altogether. It wasn't a full merger if you will. In the wake of the Super League war of the mid-1990s, and the resulting split competition of 1997, the Illawarra Steelers found themselves struggling financially and seemed unlikely to survive past 1999. The St. George Dragons largely financed a proposal for a merger which would see the St George Illawarra Dragons playing in both Kogarah and Wollongong. Essentially, St George would provide the money while Illawarra would provide a broader junior and fan base. With the NRL's intention to rationalise the competition from 20 teams down to 14 teams and with a $4M incentive and a relaxing of salary cap requirements for a merger, the Dragons and the Steelers ensured their survival by forming the League's first merger on 23 September 1998.
In early 2006, WIN Television Network bought a 25% share in the St. George Illawarra club for $6.5 million (half of Illawarra's share), erasing most of the debt Illawarra had to St. George. This formalised the strong support the network has shown for the Steelers in years gone by and ensured that Wollongong will continue to host world class rugby league matches. WIN Corp can only sell their stake back to the Steelers, should they wish to withdraw their involvement, thus ensuring Illawarra are properly represented in the merger.
Balmain & District RLFC: Entered 1908, 11 premierships, departed 1999St George-Illawarra was and is still a merger.
So when looking at the 3 mergers that took place in the late 90's this is how they went:
Western Suburbs and Balmain = 50/50 Split, beneficial for both sides equally as other options would have resulted in takeovers rather than mergers.
St George and Illawarra = Both sides benefited from merger, St George side was stronger at the time of the merger, but has become more balanced in recent years.
Manly and North Sydney = Appeared to be a merger, but ended up being more of a takeover, broke down resulting in the stronger Manly side reverting to their own identity and leaving North Sydney without representation in the top tier.
