I achillies and calf problems this year. Went to a physio got some dry needling and some stretches i could do i found it makes a big difference. Dry needling made it feel a lot better had it taped for a week and now i have stretches to do twice a day that seems to keep the pain under control.

My wife used a lot of rock tape with her injury to get through marathon last year though some dont like to do that

Cheers mate. Think booking the physio is the go. Will give that a shot and see what they say.

Struggling mostly :p

Just trying to build fast ks up

Got park into park run
Did a few 5k races and then run the bridge (hobart ten), run devonport, and on the weekend an 8k race

Got city to casino and city to surf coming up, did my 200th k for april tonight thats my biggest month

Yeah I've been struggling for pace recently too as I've started upping the kms. Been focussing on a lot of runs between 10-20 kms at a comfortable pace at the exclusion of the shorter stuff. Made a concerted effort on Monday to try and pick it up and did 6kms in about 28 minutes.

I'm also going to start getting back in to the park runs as I did a few early in the new year and posted my best 5km times but then as cricket season ramped up, I stopped going to them.

pace is a bit of a mental struggle for me at times.

I like park run, i like sleeping in is the problem though, but getting into the habit again

I'm not a sleep in person. Even on a weekend I'm usually up no later than 7am. However, I'm also not a morning runner so it is still a battle.

Just starting to get into running now - I'm not very fast at the moment but my aim is to the Sutherland to Surf in a few months. I'll start going to my local parkrun next week too which will aid my progress!

Bought myself a cheapish Garmin watch which should help my training!

Oh and I'm also on Strava :thumbsu:

Just booked myself 2 nights accommodation in Melbourne (not far from the Shrine and the start of the course) in late July so I can run the 'Age Run Melbourne'. This was the first fun run I did when I started getting in to running back in 2012.

I did the 10km in 2012 & 2014 and the Half Marathon in 2013. That's the only half marathon I've done.

Now I just have to enter this year's event and decide which option to go. I think it's about 12 weeks away so just a nice lead in time to build to a HM. I think I'm leaning that way.

Curious as to your diet guys as in:

- do you eat before you run or after?
- is it something small or more filling?
- how long before or after will you eat?
- do you eat fruits/ carbs etc to help you with your runs?

I find I tend to get a bit sick if I eat anything before I run, plus I am a bit heavier but I also need some fuel before I run. Especially if you run in the morning and run straight after you wake.

Didn't manage a park run on Saturday as I'd had a particularly late night Friday night and wasn't in the mood for people or any attempt at running hard. Just dragged myself around for a slow 6km on my own.

Beer and KFC for me. Is the constant battle between the benefits of running and the negatives of that stuff :)

Re: pre running. If it's a morning run I'll have no breakfast other than perhaps a coffee before I run. If it's actually an event / fun run of some sort I might have a banana or a smoothie well in advance of the run.

If I'm running after work I usually won't have eaten since lunch, unless I've had a light afternoon tea.

In general try to eat reasonably well but isn't something I overly focus on.

So I've just run when and how I've felt like it so far this year. Might have been a steady 5km run or a comfortable 15km run depending on how I've felt at the time.

With 12 weeks to go to the Run Melbourne HM, I will now follow a more structured plan (attached). This is the plan I used when I did it 2 years ago. I will probably deviate from it a little to occassionally go harder or longer, as I think my running is probably ahead of the starting point for people using this plan, but as a rule I'll generally stick to it.

Managed a 1 hour run last night, covering 11kms. Mostly it was fairly easy running throughout but the middle 25 minutes included 10 hill sprints, alternating between 120m sprint (half way up) and 250m sprint (all the way to the top).

Frustratingly haven't run since last Thursday after running sore for a few times last week. Had a massage tonight to sort out some lower back, groin pain. Will give it a few more days rest before a light run over the weekend. Weather getting bloody cool for the morning runs. Running with a group at 6am twice a week. Might need to invest in some gloves.

Gloves and a beanie for me and my thermal tights

Bloody cold

Hope the injuries go ok, Achilles been giving me trouble on and off, got some good stretches iff the physio but its still annoying

Got a great light Nike running jacket. Amazing how bloody warm l get with it on. Haven't donned the Skins yet. Still in the cupboard from the old footy days. I think its the cold air hitting the lungs first thing is what l find the hardest. The lungs just close up. Hard to get going.

Sometimes makes me run faster just to get out of the bloody cold, but yeah boy it can be hard, been strong cold wind down here the last few weeks going near the seaport is bloody cold

I feel like a poser with the skins on but better than freezing i guess

I'm in Country Vic. Plenty of frosts here. I've got the Nike skin shorts l wear. Definetly felt like a knob when l first started. Comfortable wearing them now.

Shorts over the top or not is the best question i dont bother now

Mate i run with think its wrong

Yeah I actually prefer running in the colder weather and rain doesn't bother me much. The hardest part is actually getting out there in this weather but once I do I tend to perform better. I really hate summer running with the sun beating down.

I have a spray jacket and a running jacket for this time of the year. Also wear a beanie and the full leg tights. Hadn't thought of gloves though - will keep that in mind.......although it would make it hard to use my running watch.

PS. Always wear shorts over the skins. :D

Haven't run since Sunday. Plan for the rest of week =

* Minimum 40 minutes tonight.....up to 60 minutes depending on how I'm feeling. Some sprints thrown in.
* Saturday - 5km parkrun.
* Sunday - long run 70 minutes +

Good luck with the event Sir Swans
