What are the saddest and/or most shocking deaths in TV shows?

Off the top of my head, I'd have to cite the death of Col. Henry Blake in MASH as both very sad and also shocking.

The show at the time especially was still very slapstick comedy, so it was even sadder due to that, how unexpected/unnecessary it was to kill him in that chopper.

But I haven't watched a ton of TV in my life, so what deaths of characters do you think were sad/shocking?

Charlie Sheen being killed off in "2 and a half men"...

Other than that I can only think of some good guy flog in Battlestar Galactica in the early 80's...

Because it screwed up theories and stuff like that.

Shayla. The emotional pain it caused for Elliot was so high.

Someone should crate a thread for most satisfying deaths on TV, I have some names for that.

Ida Blankenship. She wasn't a secretary, she was an astronaut.
The scene following this. With Don doing a presentation and Pete trying to move her body while the clients don't see. One of the funniest things in the entire series.
