Hi Footy fans...

The half-way mark of the year is upon us. The competition has seen bigger attendances at some matches, a much needed form improvement from a team that isn't usually known for dominant displays for extended periods of time and of course, the seemingly invincible force that many of the traditional SANFL fans are railing against. There has been some promising signs from South Australia's junior ranks on the national stage, some interstate success for our senior heroes and the Adelaide Oval is roaring with its new look, winning praise from all over the country and the world. So while there's plenty to be happy about with South Australian football, there's also things that aren't exactly turning frowns upside down. But anyways, there's eight more rounds of home and away SANFL action to go... so let the show roll on.

Welcome to the Round 10 edition of the SANFL Wrap-Up.

The first match off the bat takes us up north for the lone Saturday afternoon match at the Playford Alive Oval between the Bulldogs and the Crows. This would mark the first return match the Crows have ever played, having fought the rest of the competition for three victories. The first match against the Bulldogs would be their first in the SANFL competition, inflicting a 52-point belting on Centrals at the Ponderosa to open their 2014 account. After taking Port to the limit last weekend, falling short on this occasion wasn't going to be an option and the Dogs faithful wanted revenge. The first quarter would see high levels on inaccuracy for both sides, who scored five behinds each for the term. The Dogs would however, take three goals for their trouble and went into the first change with an 18-point lead. The Crows would reel that deficit back some in the second term, finally getting into the goal column on the scoreboard after kicking 4.2 to the Bulldogs' 2.2. At the long break, the Dogs were ahead by one goal. The rucking contests would favour the Crows, but the Dogs' midfield mob were able to keep the Crows from doing any major damage through their commitment to body and ball. It started to be less effective as time wore on, the Crows drawing the gap back to just two points going into the final change, scoring 2.1 to 1.3 in the third quarter. But the home side would weather the storm that the Crows brought in the final quarter, after Centrals kicked 4.1 the Crows would rally back to within a kick -- scoring 3.3 -- with mere minutes remaining. The Dogs defence held firm as they got their Round 3 revenge, a nail-biting one goal win. Josh Glenn was named best for the Bulldogs, while the Crows named Jason Porplyzia as their best afield.

Next up in the wrap, Sunday afternoon football would take up the rest of the Round 10 fixture with the first contest of the day taking us to the Alberton Oval for the clash between the Magpies and the Eagles. Until their last outing against each other, the Magpies had very little luck against their fellow western suburbs mob with just one win from 12 games stretching from early-2009 to mid-2013. Then came Round 3 this year, the Magpies invading Oval Avenue and leaving with a 58-point win under their belt. The Magpies almost came unstuck last weekend and the Eagles were downed by Adelaide at the same time and early on, the Magpies looked like once again romping away with the points. They opened the day's proceedings with a 6.3 to 3.3 first term to lead by three goals at quarter-time. The gap didn't get too much bigger in the second term, inaccuracy on goal starting to creep into the Port camp as they added 4.5 while the Eagles took 4.1 as the deficit was extended to 22 points by half-time. When play resumed, the Eagles would mount a serious challenge to the Magpies, the inaccuracy bug continuing to hamper their efforts into the third quarter. The gap would be reeled back to seven points by three quarter-time, the Eagles bagging 5.3 to the Magpies' 2.6. But sure enough and as many probably expected, the 'Pies were jolted out of their funk as they kicked 6.2 to the Eagles' 3.4, the bug changing camps at the worst time. Port would again leave Woodville as victors, taking a 23-point win. Steve Summerton was the everywhere man and was named best for Port, while the Eagles named Scott Lewis as their best on ground.

The second Sunday afternoon match takes us into leafy Unley, the Double Blues hosting the Redlegs at Envestra Park. Just when people thought that the Redlegs had their early season stumble done and dusted after getting thumped by Centrals, the Blues would inflict loss number two on them on their home deck at The Parade, ending a seven-match losing streak that stretched back to early 2011. Sitting fifth with just four wins from nine rounds, the Blues were no doubt salivating at the prospect of a vulnerable Norwood even though they came out winners last weekend. Nothing would be further from the truth when the opening siren sounded, instead of the Blues ahead in a two-number sum they would be up by just a point at quarter-time after kicking 4.2 to 4.1. After that, the Redlegs gave almost nothing away. Apart from some inaccuracy on goal, Norwood would kick ahead to a 14-point lead by the half-time break after scoring 3.4 to 1.1 in the second term. The brand of football that saw them take out back-to-back premierships was starting to show and it was more than a match for the running game employed by the Blues as of late. When play resumed, the two sides exchanged scores with a single missed shot by Norwood adding to their half-time deficit. The Redlegs' kicked 2.1 to Sturt's two goals to make it a 15-point gap at three quarter-time. It would be Norwood that took the points this time, keeping the Blues to just 1.3 whilst taking 2.3 for themselves to win by 21 points. Matthew Panos was named best for the Redlegs, the Blues named 2014 Fos Williams Medal winner Zane Kirkwood as their standout.

We now head out of the city again, down to Glenelg for the Clash of the Cats, the Tigers hosting the Panthers at Gliderol Stadium in Seven's match of the week. Prior to their last "scratch match", these sides played out 14 games against each other in five seasons. It was split down the middle, there was even a rare finals stoush in 2011 which Souths won. The Round 3 match this year would go the way of the Panthers, who gave the Tigers a 45-point smacking at Noarlunga and sent the warning to the rest of the league that South were not one to trifle with anymore. The Tigers, on the other hand, its a case of old habits dying hard as they seem anchored to the bottom of the ladder. South would take control quickly, keeping the Tigers to just 1.2 and kicking 4.3 to take a 19-point lead at quarter-time. The Panthers kept it going in the second quarter, adding a further 4.1 to the Tigers' 2.3 as the deficit was stretched out to 29 points going into the long break. Under the guidance of new coach Brad Gotch, the Panthers have become a genuine contender, showing a fighting spirit that hasn't been seen at Noarlunga for quite some time. Inaccuracy on goal in the third quarter was the only concern for the Panthers, who would score 3.5 against Glenelg's 3.1 as the gap widened to 33 points. The Tigers wouldn't come close to threatening the Panthers, the word "ticker" coming out later with the media after his charges finished off the afternoon with a 3.3 to 1.3 final term to take a 45-point win. Brent MacLeod would be named best for Souths, while the Tigers named Mitch Thorp as their best on ground.

In the final match for the weekend, we head up to the Prospect Oval where the Roosters faced the Bloods. These sides have had quite a long match history in the last five seasons, from the previous 15 matches the Roosters have won 10 to Westies' five and one of each team's victories has come from Preliminary finals. Their last encounter went the way of the red & whites, the Bloods going down by 15 points at Richmond back in Round 3 to seal a hat-trick of wins for North against West. By the end of this afternoon however, that loss would seem like a minor setback... this time it would hurt far worse. The Bloods would take just one goal in the first term, the Roosters would bag 6.3 to lead by 33 points at quarter-time. The pain would get piled on even more in the second term, the Bloods kept to just 1.1 while North slammed home 8.3 to blow the gap out to 77 points by half-time. A half of football over and down by over 12 goals already... not too many folks would blame any Bloods supporters for walking out because this was getting ridiculous. Their dominance practically asserted and established, the Roosters didn't need to do much more. When play resumed, West managed to string more majors together, but would hardly make much of an impression on an already exorbitant margin. The Roosters still outscored the Bloods, kicking 4.3 to 3.5 as the gap was extended to 81 points by the final break. It was just another afternoon West would want to forget, North finishing up with a 87-point victory after closing the game with a 3.1 to 2.1 fourth term. Matthew Campbell bagged five goals and the best afield honours for North, while Taite Silverlock was named Westies' best on an afternoon of almost no highlights.

JUNIOR CROWEATERS STUMBLE AGAINST METRO
The South Australian Under-18's national title defence was dealt a blow on Saturday morning after going down to Victoria Metro by 14 points at AAMI Stadium. The City Vics got the jump on the Croweaters early and combined with a horribly inaccurate second term, SA couldn't make up the gap despite a final term rally. The ladder shows Victoria Country, who belted WA in Perth, on top with a superior percentage to South Australia. Both teams have equal points and are set to face off in Geelong on June 27 in Round 5.
