The SANFL has drawn in over 250,000 people to matches in Season 2004, and hopefully by the time the Grand Final is over, there would have been enough to tip the total crowd numbers for the whole season to 300,000.

Top five crowds for individual weekends:
    1. Round 4--16,967
    2. Round 1--16,934
    3. Round 3--15,620
    4. Round 6--14,608
    5. Round 11--12,073

Also worth a mention was the great crowd numbers for Round 21, with only three games going and still managed over 11,000 SA footy-heads in total.

    Top five match crowds:
    1. Round 1--Sturt v. Norwood, 6,207 @ Norwood Oval
    2. Round 4--Central District v. West Adelaide, 6,125 @ Adelaide Oval
    3. Round 6--Norwood v. Port Adelaide, 5,894 @ Adelaide Oval
    4. Round 4--North Adelaide v. Port Adelaide, 5,548 @ Prospect Oval
    5. Round 1--Port Adelaide v. Central District, 5,271 @ Alberton Oval

I got to all 4 games of the last minor round. It was a great day. Especially finishing up at Prospect to see the Panthers roll em to give us the double chance.

WELL DONE DOGS. GF HISTORY MAKERS! What a performance. Who did they play?

Anyone got the top 5 lowest crowds for 2004 ?..

Just curious, im sure one of them is a South vs West clash...

Didnt know Sturt vs Norwood was such a blockbuster, Sturt's has more support than i think.

Norwood is a very disappointing side finishing bottom this year, they probably have the same support as the Port Magpies these days...

The supporters of both teams will come flooding back as soon as there is on-field success. An example of this is North Adelaide, where their crowds were up by about 60% this year (correct me if I'm wrong Wedgie).

Notice that south played in all five.

They really do need help down there to build up a stronger supporter base.

I will correct you, on field success doesn't automatically account for good crowds, just look at the crowd that went to the GF and a lot of the Eagles games.
I will also correct you with your figures, North's overall crowds were up 35.3%.
Just for the record it was a very disappointing year for crowds in the SANFL (except for North Adelaide - especially Prospect Oval attendances).

    Total Crowd 2004 season - 312,797
    Total Crowd 2003 season - 313,215

Now you may say a difference of 418 is minimal but remember this is with 1 extra team in the finals and 2 extra finals matches. Plus a full round of footy mid season with no AFL games on.

    Average per game 2004 - 3258 --- 90 minor rd & 6 finals
    Average per game 2003 - 3332 --- 90 minor rd & 4 finals
Difference per game ---------76 drop of 2.3%

That isn't too bad, but if it ever dips below 1000 then the SANFL would know they have a big problem.

Its been a long time since Glenelg showed any promising football, wondering would the crowds emerge as what happened to North Adelaide this season.

Also the Crows probably have an impact too, as all Glenelg supporters would also be Crows supporters, there success in 97 and 98 obviously wouldn't of helped the SANFL crowds very much...

I was there with a group of about 10 people at the Rd 9 South v North game and it didn't feel like an SANFL game. More like a game played in country Vic or Canberra! MUST MUST MUST develop the ground, cos besides a stand in the pocket, it's very 'regional' in it's feel.
