Blair Hartley said: "We had an interest in Scott all the way through. He's played a fair amount of footy for the Lions, but probably never been an automatic selection for them. We see him as being able to play both in the midfield and as a small forward for us and that's probably an area we need some extra support in. He's a mature player and he's ready to go."

Re: Scott Harding

Small write up on Scott;

At the start of his career there were links between Scott and Daniel Kerr/Jason Akermanis from the likes of Leigh Matthews.

From looking at the game reviews of the past year, he seemed to have a terrific start to the year especially in the NAB Cup. Seems to lack confidence though but with this limited game time has been servicable for Brisbane.

For Brisbane he was one of the quickest over 20m, and one of the strongest (Club Record for Bench Press) though seems to be tackled and bumped off quiet easily which may be more of a mental issue rather than physical.

Though 2009 wasnt his best year, he was played more so as a Midfielder though when placed in the forwards was quiet damaging with a few games kicking multiple goals. He was also playing most of 2009 with the aid of painkilling injections in his foot.

In Summary;

Lacks Confidence
Has been playing with Injury
Has been difficult for him to bring his VFL Form into AFL Form.
Is a Midfielder not a Forward where he has generally been played.

Re: #38 Scott Harding

Great move by Port to recruit Scotty Harding:thumbsu: He was always a star for the reserves but could never quite impose himself on a match in the seniors. If he is given a role to play could be a very dangerous player for you guys.

Also he is the first ever player of Tuvaluan descent to play AFL

TUVALU PRIDE!!

Re: #38 Scott Harding

Will be interesting to see how he goes,

Did some good things last week. Needs to keep stepping up in the NAB, and then the biggest thing for Scott will be to continue that on throughout the actual season.

Definately has the skills though.

Re: #38 Scott Harding

Sorry Rick,

Exactly right,

Got myself mixed up when I wrote the comments before. As you said, prefers it in the MIDFIELD. lol.

heheeh, phew thought i was going crazy.

Harding becomes first Aussie wide receiver
Ex-Brisbane Lions and Port Adelaide player Scott Harding will become the first Australian footballer to become a wide receiver in American football.

The ABC can exclusively reveal the former Port Adelaide and Brisbane player has been awarded a scholarship to play for the University of Hawaii. .......

Imagine if he became an actually good wide reciever and earned 10x what he could have in an AFL career.

Good luck Harding!

I saw that story on the ABC morning news (they actually interviewed Harding in the studio) on 27 May and AdelaideNow didn't pick it up until late at night on 2 June. Quality :rolleyes:

....90kg? That's their breakfast.
Good luck to him if he can get to 90kg. His AFL playing weight was only 82Kg, or 78Kg depending on the source. Randy Moss who won the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award in 1998 playing as a wide receiver for the Vikings is only 94kg. Randy is 6'4" (193) though where as Harding is only 5'11" (181).

Scott Harding continues to be the Warriors' most valuable player. Not only is Harding the team's most prolific receiver, he also punts and returns punts. Against Wyoming, Harding averaged 44.1 yards on seven punts. Two of his rugby-style squib kicks struck Cowboys and were recovered by UH. This season, five punts have resulted in lost fumbles. Opponents are averaging 0.75 yards in returns on Harding's punts. Only 10 of Harding's 53 punts have been returned; none of his punts resulted in touchbacks.

Scotty making quite a name for himself in American Football, not as the typical punter, but as a wide receiver. Was named University of Hawaii's MVP a few days ago. Good on him.
