Hello,

I'm an Assistant Reporter for the Western Region Football League, and I generally cover Division 1 Under 18 matches.

I've recently been assigned a task, to research the history of the Laverton Magpies, the St. Albans Saints, and the North Sunshine Roadrunners. These pieces will feature in the WRFL Record throughout season 2013.

I would love to find out about notable members of the clubs, past and present - this includes players whom went on to play at the highest level. Are there any great stories of how these clubs came to be what it is today?

Information relative to a team mascot and previous home grounds is also very much appreciated.

Thank you all for the help.

Re: Laverton FC history

This is a reproduction of an article in the Werribee Shire banner on Thursday 29th March 1934. Seems like Truganina and Laverton FCs merged at this time, have no earlier history of Laverton FC. nteresting might help. Got from trove.nla.gov.au website.

COMBINED FOOTBALL CLUB LAVERTON AND TRUGANINA AMALGAMATE A football meeting took place in the Trugenina Hall on Tuesday night, this being the result of a decision made at the Laverton Football Club's meeting held on Monday, 19th March, to discuss amalgamation with Truganina. A large attendance of enthusiasts :was present.- The meeting was opened by Mr. Williamson as president of the Laverton Club, with Mr. A. Lee as secretary. Mr. Williamson outlined the reason for convening the meeting, stating that amalgamating the two bodies seemed the only way to carry on successfully. This met with general approval. A motion was called for and received : "That a combined team be formed." (Carried.) Mr. G. Porter was elected president and promised that he would endeavour to do his utmost to further the interests of fcotball in the district (applause). Four vice-presidents were then elected, viz : Messrs. R. Davis, H.Cropley, A. Lee and J. P. Robinson. Two nominations, Messrs. A. Lee and L. Grifliths, were received for the position of secretary. A ballot was taken, resulting in the election of Mr. Griffiths, who also thanked the meeting and promised to do his best in that position. Mr. A. Lee wass appointed treasurer.' A motion that in addition to the president, secretary and treasurer, four be elected to comprise a general committee, was carried. It was also decided, that this committee act as a social committee. Messrs. S Wills, J. P. Robinson, R. Davis and L. Hopkins were elected to the committee. Association delegates : Messrs. A. Lee and G. Porter. A discussion as to what name the club should be called then took place. A motion by Messrs. J. P. Robinson and' S. Wills, that the club be named The District Rovers, met with the full support of the meeting. The meeting further decided to adopt as a uni form black sweaters with red r's. Players are to wear black knickers throughout, as the practice of some players wearing a variety of colors is somewhat confusing. A rather long discussion took place on the matter of the ground. Finally the meeting decided to use the Truganina ground as the registered playing area for the season. A motion was agreed upon that membership fees be 2/6 all round. The question of transport of players was left in the hands of the committee. The next general meeting will be held in the Laverton (sic) sharp,-.when the presence of all interested in the new club is desired.
