Love your enthusiam Nos_4r2 & I too hope that one say the SFL can get back to 4 divisions. But how would the fixture work with only 8 teams? Granted you'd have to play a top 4 finals system, but you'd need to allocate a 21 round fixture + 3 weeks of finals = 24 weeks of footy. Currently we have 18 rounds + 4 weeks of finals. Possible I suppose if you start the season 1 week earlier & play through Queens birthday weekend

One negative is that you're only one team departing the comp away (for any given reason) to muck up your proposed divisional system to being basically back to 3 divisions

Rofl at the league sending Port Colts into div 2. They've had a lean year this year, I've watched them a few times in the past 24 months, they'd finish top half of div 1 pretty comfortably.....they will absolutely paste div 2 next year if they get in.

Don't you think for the SFL to grow we have to have a strong Div 1. So to be in Div 1 you have to have more than just a good first 18
So here are my thoughts on this

Div1
10 teams, only one to be relegated, teams must have Sen, Res Under 19s and one Netball team (Teams that don’t have this now are given till season 2016 to do so)

Div2 10 teams, only one to be relegated, teams must have Sen, Res and one Netball team

Div3 11/12 teams must have Sen, Res

Under 19s to have two Divisions

Under 19s Div1, 10 teams

Under19s Div2, made up from D2,D3 plus any jnr club that wants to field an under 19s team only (This could be changed to 16 players a side only for this division)

Thirds: Two Divisions, with more teams coming in we could get to 16+ teams in the thirds

Div1 made up from D1/D2 (top half)

Div2 D2/D3 (This Div could be changed to 16 player a side )

Netball: Could play on a Friday night this would then free the girls to come to games on Saturdays plus the boys can watch them play on a friday night
D1 (10 teams), D2, D3, D4, D5 (40 teams +)

The idea of this, is to get more people coming to games.
Friday night netball, Saturday most Div 1 teams would have 4 games playing with Sen, Res, U19s and Thirds, grounds with lights can have a Saturday Night game

J Rickard will tie with his brother s Rickard for Mt Waverley's club b&f. I hear Stacey also dyes his hair blond so he stands out more and therefore gets more votes... cheeky devil, I say.

This is just ridiculous!!!!!!!

Stacey has definitely been seen coming out of the umpires rooms on more than one occasion, fact, wont say too much more about the reasoning.

I'd like to see Gough win the league b&f, would be well deserved.

Would of thought the league B&F would have to come out of either mount (stacey, beecroft, gough etc) or cpl (mouritz, barr, dent etc)but other notables to consider are Cellini(missed games and lack of wins will hurt) Tormey and Irish lyndale.. j williams BR (again missed games will hurt)
Will be interesting, any other names a chance of polling?

Good luck then to East Brighton I say, those Div 1 teams without existing U19s team will find it hard especially when there is no junior link. Small supporter base suggests that a netball side won't be more than just a pipe dream

Mordialloc in the a similar boat who is competing against other clubs for juniors (St Bedes have the stronghold in that area), easier said than done to pluck 26+ young men from somewhere and form a side. Hard work to be able to build a side in the next 18 months and gone of the days of when the SFL use to fine Division 1 clubs for not having U/18s or 19s.

East Malvern have THE biggest auskick program in the country but where do the young men play their footy past 16 yrs of age? For their school side, with their mates, usually for their private school old boys team (without sounding stereotypical). So you see they are up against it also

Your idea of having 2 divisions of 19s whilst ideal, won't happen with only of a third of the comp having U19s or it will take MANY years. Plus your model suggests that Div 2 & 3 don't require top have a U19s team so where are the teams going to come from?

So lets look at the teams without an U19s team:

Ashwood: Have an aligned junior club so maybe a work in progress
Black Rock: Simple. They're competing with Beaumaris for juniors. Tough ask their with what Black Rock have to offer
Caulfield: Surprised they don't have one, have a strong junior club, maybe its a case of watch this space in the next year or so
Dandenong: Highly multicultural area where Aussie rules is not the first choice for sports
Doveton: See Dandenong plus competing for kids against the Casey affliated Doveton & St Johns clubs
East Brighton: Should have one but don't due to relationship with junior club, hurting East Brighton's depth at the moment
East Malvern: In the private school heartland competing against De La Salle & others. But have strong juniors
Endeavour Hills: Newish club & 4 different junior clubs in near by Narre Warren not helping. Hallam not too far away as well
Hallam: Had U18s but must be having a gap year or so
Heatherton: The obvious is that Dingley is only a stone's throw away
Keysborough: Not yet competing but see Heatherton above
Lyndale: No little about them other than they are in Dandenong North so you'd suggest that Noble Park have the stronghold here
Moorabbin: No juniors, competing with East Sandy, Hampton & Highett for numbers, tough ask there
Mordialloc: As previously mentioned no feeder club
Mt Waverley: Too many junior teams in the area that are EFL aligned or that are feeder teams for those clubs
Murrumbeena: Last years premiers must be having a gap year
Oakleigh Dist: No aligned junior team, Clayton only a stone's throw away plus there's the Dragon's who are based at Scammell reserve (Krushers). Probably cost them numerous chances of being promted to Div 1 over the years
Sandown: No feeder team plus Mulgrave up the road, not really in a growth area
South Yarra: In the private school heartland competing with VAFA for juniors, same as East malvern
St kilda City: Had a U18s team which they manufactured in 2011, competing with Port Melb Colts for juniors to come through
Springvale: Noble Park dare I say any more.

So one can see that there are many variables for as to why a club has no U/19s and even harder to start one

We have tried for years at Dandenong to get a Colts side up and running, but you've hit the nail on the head with your answer.

I believe Sandown began an alignment with a junior club (Parkdale?) a few years ago.

Bentleigh and Dingley both came in to div 2 and both thought it'd be a free ride, but both lost grand finals.

Bentleigh didn't even consider Div 1 or ask for it because it wasn't on the table. Had the choice of Div 2 or 3
Wayne Holdsworth did say at the time the Div 2 was the equivalent standard of C Section Ammos though :D

Can't speak for Dingley on this matter who from memory lost to a cashed up Springy in their first year

So Gough just fell short finishing with 98 goals... That's a fair effort and probably deserved the 100 for the year he has had.

And then there were 5...

Obviously Black Rock resting players the last 2 weeks, had about 8 or so against us today... Mount Waverley again proved they are the team to beat...

Today Lyndale outplayed mount in the first quarter, kicking 7 goals but sadly that was it. Mount showed why they are the top team, and even when down at the first break, pretty much dominated the rest of the game. They played so good together, when lyndale's heads were down they made sure they let them pay, and are very disciplined apart from no. 32 kicking someone while there on the ground, dirty effort that he now knows he has to live with. There defiantly the team to beat now that its finals time.
