Well... this is interesting!

Carlton's head of recruiting Shane Rogers has quit the club on the eve of the 2015 season, a matter of months after signing a new contract.

Rogers, who was elevated to head of recruiting before the 2012 season, has left in the wake of Carlton's restructure of the club's recruiting and list management. It was well known in AFL recruiting circles that Rogers was unhappy with the restructure, which saw him reporting to the club's new general manager of list management, Stephen Silvagni.

Want people who want to be here and not big ego they can work within the new structure and chain of command. Need team players and people who can work with others in the single purpose goal of getting the team where it wants to be. People like that often end up causing internal problems.

That's really disappointing :( The picks Shane Rogers really had the control over will only start to show their wares in the next year or two, and they looked pretty good!

Would love to know the ins and outs of what has happened to make him quit.

Club had better find a new recruiter with some balls like Rogers soon.

I don't think they're replacing him. Isn't the plan that SOS is in charge of our existing recruiters?

Just read that in another thread. I guess we will have to wait and see, but geez, some stability off-field is what the club really needs and whilst we are getting it in some areas, this isn't really the case.

None of us know anything about what has happened in regards to Rogers leaving. He could have been promised one thing at signing his contract and then we reneged. Rogers didn't strike me as someone who had an ego.

Anyway, let's see what comes of this.

Maybe before, Shane was reporting directly to the president and the board, but with the restructuring, he had to report to SOS... that would tend to make you feel a little unappreciated really

Rogers had to silently witness years of train wreck drafting from Wayne Hughes.

Once Hughes was axed, years too late, Rogers barely got settled before the administration was trying to back up a semi-trailer of money to Graham Wright's (Hawthorn head recruiter) front door.

Then Rogers was expected to play recruiting 2IC to Silvagni as list manager. Love SOS, but what has he proven at GWS? Starchamber could've picked a brilliant squad with the concessions given by the AFL to the Giants.

Once again, the club tries to throw silly money at problems and, then when that doesn't work, rushes in a favoured son to give everyone the warm fuzzies. It's like the 90s all over again, only without the premiership and the ability to buy our way out of trouble.

Seems that way but MLG also seems to be a clever operator, at least I hope so

At end of the day none of us know exactly what's going on and what's gone on
