Hard to argue against that, especially when they have known for a while the MCG will be in use. Does WA have another FC ground?

Not sure if we do- but we own our own home ground.

As eddiesmith points out- it's also hard to avoid the conclusion that Cricket Victoria are either crying poor or deliberately not maintaining the Junction in order to get state government funding for a permanent move there.

Which would make it a deliberate Cricket Victoria decision

Plus this part of a an article a couple of days ago imo proves it a bit, CA was happy for it to be at the Junction

Cricket Australia earlier this month had the St Kilda venue pegged to host the final if the Bushrangers finished on top of the shield ladder, as occurred six years ago when the MCG was unavailable due to a charity concert, and Bankstown if the Blues finished first.

But in the past fortnight Cricket Victoria has decided the outdated Junction Oval facilities are inadequate for the shield's showpiece match

Where is this from?

So it is CV who have deemed it to be not fit for 1st class cricket not CA. Obviously a ploy to ensure the funding comes through

WACA are trying to argue the rule that says because the 1st team cant host it, the 2nd team should then be able too

But we are not waiving our right to host, surely CA can see that we cant host because of a once in a generation event with the world cup final being here at the MCG.

If they transfer it to the WACA, we should come out and say well actually if thats the case, we will hold it at the Junction Oval, given it appears to be CV that has cancelled the Junction out. The premier grand final can be moved to another ground.

Not going to happen i know

Nah. Cricket Victoria are probably getting a major upgrade of the Junction courtesy of the Victorian government out of this. Losing a final helps them.

And given the end game for Cricket Victoria is probably moving to the Junction and hosting all shield matches there they won't want to reveal that they were playing games with the Junction's status.

Regardless, CA and the states should have seen this problem coming and collectively agreed for the final to be at (x), similar to the BBL. We knew from miles out that CV would have a problem if they won the right, NSW too wouldn't've been able to host it at the SCG although easily could have find an alternative, and SA might have had to play it at Glenelg, so that's possibly 3 first choice venues out. The value in finishing first isn't the home final aspect, although it's a small bonus, but the whole "just have to draw it" thing and as far as I'm concerned, a final at a pre-determined location would have been a sensible option here, not least because we wouldn't be dealing with the situation of us having no idea what the hell is gonna happen a week out from the final

The problem is you let WA host it and it will be a lively pitch guaranteed for a result, complete opposite to the flattest, most lifeless pitch they have ever produced for this game where a draw was enough. They obviously wanted to play Victoria then force them to move it to Perth

There is no end to the sneakiness of the Western Australians that's for sure!

How so?

The rules are the rules- if a side can't host a ground at home then the second team gets to pick.

Cage successfully rattled ;)

I don't blame WA for trying to force it to be played over there but I think given the circumstances it would be unfair on Victoria for it to be played there and I expect CA to come to the same decision.

As Phone said though how did it come to this? A complete debacle. Once again politics at the core of it it seems.

No more unfair than Perth hosting the BBL final in Canberra and WA not getting a test match

That was a neutral venue and a limited overs contest where there is a winner unless it got washed out and then you still would have won

The Shield final is a bit different as we are used to flat, lifeless pitches but if the 2nd placed side suddenly gets the right to doctor a pitch to suit them, then how is that fair?

WACA threatning legal action.

"" Ms Matthews said she was told as late as Thursday afternoon the final would be played at Junction Oval and the Warriors did not have a problem with that"".
"However, we do have a problem with it being taken to a ground that has nothing to do with Victoria," she said.

Makes me think that what others have said is correct about cricket victoria making this political.

If WA is happy to play at the Junction and CA approved it to be there, but CV is refusing to hold it at Junction Oval, then we are not making this easy for ourselves.

Diddums- you'll have to play on a wicket designed for a result.

Maybe WA are saying they are happy with it at the Junction Oval because they know that CV don't want it held there. If CV had agreed to have it there WA might have jumped up and down and said it's not a first class venue.

WA is only going to qualify for the final thanks to the flattest pitch in Australia, no problem if they prepare the same pitch ;)

I understand WA are complaining but didn't realise CA had officially announced Bellerive as the venue

http://www.cricket.com.au/news/hobart-blundstone-arena-to-host-bupa-sheffield-shield-final-victoria-western-australia/2015-03-16

But the rules state this part

Should the team waive this right

We are not waiving the right, we are choosing an acceptable venue and that's Bellerive
