Burns 63 not out at time of typing (lunch, day one). It's hard to get a read on his form this season. Has he turned a corner or is he still feast or famine? Queensland 2-105 with Labuschagne and Moller both falling to Sandhu.

Lyon and O'Keefe are both playing for NSW. It's highly likely O'Keefe will return better figures. Whether this affects the lineup for the first test is anyones guess.

Also making his return to first class cricket after heroically bowling us to victory on one leg against South Africa is Ryan Harris.

Yeah, if Burns could just get a bit more consistency....and if he could turn a few more of those 70s and 80s into big 100s......

Tbf, batting top order at the Gabba means he will always cop a few low scores....

He has been as good if not better to this point of his career than Ferguson, White, Doolan and several others.

Burns ended up with 183, very good knock.

He had a reasonable summer last year (45 average, although only one ton), after a shitty 2012/13, hopefully he keeps building and really pushes for a spot in the test side.

Even if it's against NSW it's good to see Burns scoring runs. There is a lot to like about the way he plays. One he is set he is possibly the nicest striker of the ball in domestic cricket. Not the biggest hitter, but once he is in for about an hour it seems like everything just comes off the middle.

I haven't seen him in Shield cricket for about 12 months now, so wondering if people who have been watching the streams can answer me - does he still play at too many balls early in his innnings, particularly just fishing outside off?

That was my biggest concern with him early in his career. It's a flaw that can really undo a lot of guys who score well at domestic level. Guys like Steyn, Anderson et al who can consistently swing the ball in almost all conditions are relentless at picking up the edge of guys who don't leave enough balls early on.

It was also why I was surprised with his promotion to opener as it's more likely to be exposed, but he got some nice scores opening last season and has had a big start to this season.

NSW in real trouble here. Anyone know why Maddinson is batting at 4? Also, Abbott at 7 makes for a very weak batting lineup. Could be all out quickly if these two don't stick around.

Because they finally realized he's a crap opener.
