Shield Final - venue dispute

Windy Hill, Victoria Park, money has been spent on those venues to bring them up to VFL standard.
but for Windy Hill, i could imagine the cranky oldies from the bowls club:mad: refusing to return the cricket ball after its been hit on to their precious greens

Essendon do play premier cricket there though, so it can't be that big a deal.

It holds 8-9 thousand so that's no issue, Essendon VFL don't train on it over summer so there's no tenancy issues and a little bit of money has been put into it over the last year or so, and it's big enough dimensions wise too.

Hypothetically, after finding out that the Junction Oval wasn't first class standard 2-3 years ago, could Cricket Victoria have prepared another first class ground in time for this season?

Doesn't have to be the Junction Oval

It would still most likely cost millions of dollars to get these grounds right, all for the possibility that Victoria "might" have to play one 5 day game there. And then it would never be used for a FC game again as they have the MCG and a 40 million dollar Junction Oval.

In short the answer is No.

All existing District a Cricket Grounds in Melbourne are fully functional as is. All have turf practice wickets, but all use run ups on the main oval. There is no return on investment to relocate and upgrade practice wicket facilities for a one off game that was 1 in 5 or 6 chance of happening, even if you have available space. The cost to do this would be 150k minimum, there is no council in Victoria that would be able to justify such an expense for no long term benefit.

Maybe the Eastern Oval in Ballarat might get to this level, they have a proposed new upgrade, but at the minute the practice wickets my knock out 99% of sl grounds in Victoria and facilities knock out the other 1%.

Well yeah. I understand perfectly well why they didn't.
