COLLINGWOOD defender Ben Sinclair has signed a two-year contract extension, emphasising his importance to the Magpies' developing backline ahead of his 50th AFL game against Geelong on Friday night.

AFL.com.au understands the terms of the new deal, which will tie the speedy defender to the Magpies until the end of 2017, have been agreed upon for a number of weeks.

Sinclair's 2015 campaign has been hampered by a hamstring injury but the 23-year-old has fought his way back into Nathan Buckley's team and will have played the last four games in the seniors after the match against the Cats.

This well and truly shows Buckley's favorite player is. Does not deserve an extension.

Don't agree that coaches have 'favourites', which implies they are picked at all costs, putting games at risk. Sorry, but that is just nonsense.

Sinks is not my favourite player, but the club obviously values him and sees a role for him. Congrats on his extension. Wouldn't be on a high salary, and needed at the very least for depth.

Excellent re-signing. Run out of the backline is something we missed this year when Ramsay and Sinclair were both out. People seem to remember him as a forward when he was decidedly average.

Provided it's not on much more than minimum chips this is fine with me. He's an effective alternative/backup who actually showed plenty in the backline in the past. And he's still got great pace. Good insurance if nothing else, and is better than some give him credit for.

Fantastic re signing. Has improved massively this year. Look forward to years of Sinclair domination

Bucks when he signed

good player never be a star lm ok with this. adds run and pace out of hb. need depth players
unlike some other I can see y he is the best 22 at the moment

He is good enough in a small defender's role, he has struggled with continuity due to injury. Shocking small forward though. Good decision, we were never going to delist him so let's just hope he stays fit and continues to improve.

For ****s sake shut up. He had 19 disposals last week and 18 were effective.

Glad he has re-signed like it or not he is best 22.
Well said
Hes ok, he applies himself.
But for him he happens to be the latest bigfooty punching bag
Congrats on his 50
