Smedts and Ballantyne: How many weeks?

Remove this Banner Ad

I would have no problems with him getting a one week suspension since he did hit the head. What I do have a problem with is the inconsistency of the MRP, how can someone get three weeks for something others have got nothing for?
Who these days, gets nothing for leaving the ground and bumping the head- MRP pretty consistent on that?
These decisions were about right-Ballantyne = 2 , maybe Smedts =2 but he has a good record, Haydn doesn't.

No biggie I guess, given how completely out of form Ballantyne has been in the first two rounds. Several Freo posters want him dropped anyway. Nice to give Handbag Harry a whack too.
Why? Harry is a fair player.

So according to the MRP, an accidental high bump is worse than a deliberate coathanger?

It wasn't accidental it was careless.

Head clashes are 99% of the time accidental. Ballantyne tucked in his elbow and elected to bump, was careless and whilst running at pace shouldered Taylor and collected to the jaw. That's not accidental.

Maybe not but still not as deliberate and unessesary as that coat hanger! FMD one week is the fricken joke of the century!

So what you're saying is, you're happy with the decision? They did get the same penalty. Ballantyne's bad record added an extra week on top of it.

This is correct, however, "players who have served two or more matches of suspension in the past two years now have an officially-termed “bad record”."

"Fremantle had eight players with carry-over points but now only Nat Fyfe, Matthew Pavlich, Hayden Ballantyne Colin Sylvia have bad records.Zac Dawson, David Mundy, Zac Clark and Michael Johnson lose carry-over points."

So did the tribunal stuff it up with Stevie J in Round 1? Not that he deserved a suspension but they said he had no bad record. Pretty sure he's copped more than 2 weeks over the past 2 seasons

I think it's to do with the severity of the whack? So it was graded as cash money only. If it had been graded as weeks then his "bad boy" record comes into play?

2 weeks

Uh huh

Thats why we should have challenged. We could have easily got it down to low impact and a one week holiday and only risked an away game against Melbourne if they failed. Maybe they were hanging out to get another young guy into the team to reward there efforts over the offseason.

OMG when you see that side by side it's crazy!

Goddard doesn't have the ball, so he would not expect the bump, it's way too late, the other one, the cat still has the ball,

Yep still chook lotto
