South Africa vs England series

The send off was fantastic. He basically said, show us and the game some respect and stop talking to the people in the commentary box while you are batting. Interviewing players while they are in between deliveries is ridiculous. I imagine that Smith won't do it again. Kohli is ne of my favourite players in the world and if he did the same to an Englishman, I would have no worries about it.
If that sook is one of your favourite players in the world, you must have very low standards. But you are a Pom, and sooking is one of your national past times I suppose.

What happened to the Aussie-Pom they selected a few years ago, Robson ? Thought he'd be a better choice then Hales/Lyth

Wait, you want to talk about England or the Saffers, and not the meltdown about Kholi?

Sam Robson, played seven Tests for one 100 and one 50. Could still get another go, but I think Compton showed enough as opener, he should be moved back up and persevered with.

When bowlers like kumar get the better of you at home then it's kinda hard to keep your spot, average of just 23 at home vs india's bowlers over 5 tests is pretty much game over for a newbie.

Hey, Bhuvi is a good bowler. Very much suited to English conditions. No shame in struggling against him as an inexperienced player.

Vaughan calling for a "vibe" based selection policy
Agree with him on Compton not being test standard. Although at this stage with a Test average of 17, and an ODI average of 25, you would have to say the same about Hales
Hales wasn't even good in the Big Bash.
I posted this re: Compton a while ago. His strike rate has now gone up by .23

Some pretty handy players in there, no reason he couldn't join them if fans adjust their expectations. Not everyone is Dave Warner.

lyth is the best opener, of a bad bunch.
a bit harsh to judge him and write him off based on the ashes.
we should of given him this series at least to make a proper go of it.
then see where he is at.

Lyth & Hales aren't up to it, nor Robson - too many technical issues - agree with above that Compton is confused as to what his role is. Bairstow is a poor keeper. The poms are far from the finished article. I'd be looking for a young opener to pair with Cook and learn from.

England's best opener alongside Cook with all things considered (looking purely at team balance and recent statistics), would probably be Marcus Tresothick. There really is nobody else apart from those who have already been tried. Hales had an excellent county season and deserves a little more time, but I don't think moving Compton is a good option.

Technically - Hales isn't going to make it at Test level - Sir Geoffrey and I agree on that. Surely amongst 18 counties there is another young opener worth having a look at

Someone told me for the SA series, Compton had a higher S/R than Hales

Like I said, wrong era. You can't consistently score at under 40 and hope to succeed at test level these days.
