Facts about Souths' failure of a title defence:

- First team since the Melbourne Storm of 2010 (who had all competition points stripped) to not reach week 2 of the finals as defending premiers.
- First team since the Saints of 2011 to miss the top four as defending premiers (they were 5th)
- First team since the Sea Eagles of 2009 to lose a week 1 final as defending premiers (and they were eliminated from 5th place under old system due to 7th and 8th winning their matches under old system)
- First team since 2007 Broncos (ignoring the Storm's 2010 season) to finish outside the top 6 as defending premiers (they were 8th, Souths were funnily enough 7th that season)
- First team since 2006 Wests Tigers (-75) to finish a season with a negative points difference as defending premiers (even Melbourne, with no competition points in 2010, finished with +132) with a -2 PD
- First team since 2012 Sea Eagles to finish a season with over 400 points against as defending premiers with 467 points conceded (Manly conceded 403)
- First team since 2009 Gold Coast Titans to lose a finals game to a team with a negative points difference (they lost to the Broncos). The Sharks also had a negative points difference, for the record.
- Only the 2015 Rabbitohs and Sharks have qualified for the finals with a negative points difference since the 2009 Broncos did it with -55 in the above example. Cronulla also did it with 32 premiership points, while Souths did it with 30.

This Walker and Gray hospital business is a bit, well... odd, isn't it?

What are the Aussie press saying?

Triple-O call may have saved life of South Sydney Rabbitohs player Aaron Gray

September 22, 2015 - 9:56PM

By BRAD WALTER

A triple-zero emergency phone call by a concerned friend may have saved the life of rookie South Sydney winger Aaron Gray.

The mate, who is understood to have feared for Gray's health after he began choking from the effects of prescribed painkillers the 21-year-old and Rabbitohs teammate Dylan Walker – a lifelong friend – had taken, phoned for an ambulance at about 3.45am Tuesday.

Update Regarding Dylan Walker and Aaron Gray

The South Sydney Rabbitohs can confirm that the health status of its players, Dylan Walker and Aaron Gray, remains good.

The young men have now been moved from the Intensive Care Unit into a private ward.

Doctors still have a series of protocols and tests that need to be worked through before a decision can be made on when the young men will be permitted to leave hospital.

Rabbitohs CEO John Lee said: “The families of both players have thanked everyone who has offered their well wishes and support over the past few days.

“They have also thanked the media for the respect and privacy that has been shown to them and the boys.

“There will be an appropriate time to debrief on what has happened in this situation, but at the moment our focus remains on the wellbeing of the young men.”

Rabbitohs Head Coach Michael Maguire added: “All of our efforts and thoughts at the moment are with Dylan, Aaron and their families.

“I’ve made a few visits to see the boys over the past few days and it’s really reinforced the significance of family, and how important their parents are to them in their lives.

“I’ve spoken to their team mates and they have all offered their support to the Walker and
Gray families during what is a difficult time for them.

“We look forward to the continued improvement in their health.”
The Club will continue to inform its Members and the public of any further developments.

Good to see the boys on the mend, after what could have been a tragic incident

Youse guys chasing Sam Burgess again, then?

We are, we have and we will. Every month there's a new article about Sam returning, but no new evidence suggesting. It's all speculation at this point and I'm not going to believe anything until Sam officially puts pen to paper and signs a new contract.

Apparently he's not happy with Union and the politics within the England camp.

Also their World Cup campaign is over.

My concern is how much have we actually got left in our cap to spare for Sam? Even though we've let go of many players with big contracts, we've also made a lot of contract upgrades over the years and most notably the upgrades for his brothers. Hopefully we can sort it out though.

I'm sure they'll take pay cuts to get him back.

Sam Burgess Returns to the Rabbitohs for Seasons 2016-2018

The South Sydeny Rabbitohs have signed dual International, Sam Burgess, with the Englishman re-joining the Club until at least the end of the 2018 Season.

Burgess, 26 will re-join his only NRL Club, The Rabbitohs, after a 12-month period in English Rugby where he played five Rugby Test matches for England including the 2015 Rugby World Cup, one match for English Saxons and 26 appearances for Bath.

Sam Burgess returning to the NRL with the Rabbitohs is a massive boost for the NRL and the Rabbitohs.
Membership will rise along with sponsorship for the Rabbitohs.
The free publicity alone that both will get from his return is worth millions.
