Stats observations

You know I initially posted 29, then looked again and got 32. I think when I checked a 2nd time I counted 3 goals from the 3.1. My bad!

I never knew that page/stat was there. I feel Lockett should be on that list even though we may not be able to 100% verify his 29. He kicked 16.0 and 6.0 so we can verify he kicked at least 22 straight.

Also, any players who kicked only goals or only behinds in any game, then we know the minimum number of goals or behinds they scored consecutively. Could list them with an asterisk and a note at the bottom of the table.

As per Lockett's verifiable 22 straight, who else can we say kicked at least 10 straight goals or behinds (pre-2008)?

22.0 - Lockett (16-6), Milne (5-3-3-4-1-3-3)
14.0 - Lynch (5-3-4-2)
13.0 - Heatley (5-1-7), Modra (5-8)
12.0 - Hudson, Milne (11-1)
11.0 - McKenna, Quinlan, Kernahan (5-6), Ablett, Carey (7-2-2)
10.0 - Taylor (6-4 twice), Beasley (4-6), Longmire (5-4-1), Neitz (4-4-2)
=============================
9.0 - Wade (6-3), Hudson, Hudson (4-5), Templeton, Ablett (1-8), Bewick
8.0 - Jesaulenko
=============================
0.10 - Ablett (2-1-3-4)
...

I was thinking the same thing. Especially with more recent games. I've been looking up Cummings 14.1 to see when he kicked the behind.

Fremantle has conceded 100+ twice in 2013, and twice in 2014. Both seasons the culprits have been Hawthorn and St Kilda. In the two 2014 matches, it has conceded the ton by three-quarter-time.

There is some data about Lockett in the August 28, 1995 edition of the Herald-Sun (p 43). This was after Sydney's round 21 match against Fremantle. The paper states "Lockett kicked 29 goals straight against Brisbane, Fitzroy, Adelaide and Fremantle from the 15 minute mark of the opening term in Round 18 to the 15 minute mark of the first quarter yesterday." (Yesterday being August 27, 1995).

This obviously would mean Lockett kicked the "streak-snapping behind" at the 15 minute mark of the first quarter versus Freo. The paper lists all seven of Lockett's goals kicked against Freo as this was the game wherein he kicked his 100th for the season, and later, the 1000th of his career. The first of his seven versus Fremantle came at the 1 minute mark of the first quarter, from a mark, 30 metres out. His second came at the 25 minute mark of the second quarter, therefore, if we accept the Herald-Sun's writings, Lockett's 29 goal straight streak would be 6 vs. Brisbane, 16 vs. Fitzroy, 6 vs. Adelaide and 1 vs. Fremantle.

My primary contribution here is merely the tabular presentation, although I have researched some of the questionable stats.

224 Jude Bolton, Brad Johnson, David McKay, Mark Ricciuto, Michael Tuck
223 Gary Ablett jnr, Simon Black, Kane Cornes
222 Marcus Ashcroft, Corey McKernan, Kelvin Mooore
221 Kevin Sheedy, Adam Simpson
220 Shannon Grant

It's been well documented that Sydney are chasing a club record 13 consecutive wins on the weekend when they face Hawthorn.

I was bored, and using Paul's website, the current and best winning streaks of each (active) club are:

Team|Current|All time
\Adelaide |0|10
\Brisbane|0|20
\Carlton|1|18
\Collingwood|0|20
\Essendon|3|20
\Fremantle*|0|9
\Geelong|4|23
\Gold Coast|0|5
\GWS|0|2
\Hawthorn|1|12
\Melbourne|0|19
\North Melbourne|0|11
\Port Adelaide|1|8
\Richmond|3|12
\St Kilda|1|19
\Sydney|12|12
\West Coast|1|12
\Western Bulldogs|1|9 as Footscray
*would have equaled club record if they had won against the Saints.

If Sydney were to not drop another game this year, their streak would stand at 21 consecutive wins, and will have surpassed Brisbane, Essendon and Collingwood as having the second best winning streak of all time.

Edit: I was quite surprised Hawthorn's best was just 12...
Not a very exciting observation haha

Pretty comprehensive, so well done to you and original compiler.
The HK Littler figure is a serious over-estimation and his entry ought be removed altogether, in my opinion.
Same goes for Cumberland too.

On another matter, I personally would not include games of a separate sport (International Rules) in the totals.
Feels a bit like adding baseball internationals to a cricketer's Test record.
There is another aspect to this too...if including Int Rules games in a player's career total,
then compiler also needs to include the goals (and "overs") player kicked in those matches in career tally of goals.

A reader has presented a fairly compelling case (newspaper reports and the Football Record) that in Round 1, 1914 Collingwood played Reg Gibb not Percy Gibb as most records appear to have. I've decided to change my records, but wondering if any other sleuths can dig up any other evidence either way.

Further to this, it appears the obverse occurred in RD 6, 1914, where Percy played not Reg. In addition, Lou Armstrong played for Essendon in RDs 7-9, not Bert Armstrong.

Awesome effort from the fans tonight

72760 - Hawthorn v Sydney, MCG, R18 2014
72130 - Hawthorn v Sydney, Waverley Park, R22 1999

I believe that is the biggest H&A crowd anywhere involving a non-Victorian side, surpassing the 72393 for Sydney v Collingwood, Stadium Australia, R21 2003.

After 12 rounds, Collingwood were 8-3 and in 4th spot, percentage keeping them from 2nd.

Since then, LLWLLL and they have now dropped to 9th.

It was 9 years ago in 2005 when they were most recently out of the 8 in the 2nd half of a season.

At a very quick glance, I think only 3 of the 9 winners in round 18 were higher on the ladder than their opponent before the round started (so 6 were won by the lower ranked side). Has there ever been a HA round where all games were won by the team lower on the ladder before the round started? (I acknowledge round 1 might be a little difficult to gauge, but ideally it would be based on the previous year's finishing positions).
