More to do with SANFL footy, but bare with me. Stephen Kernahan is listed as playing 138 games for Glenelg from 1981-1985, before he left for Carlton. yet Glenelg, even including finals only played 121 games in this period. So, how did Kernahan play this many? Seems a statistical anomaly for SANFL players compared to their VFL counterparts of the same era.
Kernahan's total includes games played in the SANFL pre-season competition. This is a common trait with SANFL player stats.
Same goes for other comps. The question is how many Senior Games, irrespective of pre-season, post-season, international, etc. I've been updating the list below each week:

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/stats-observations.982508/page-111#post-34159442

PS: As far as I can tell, Sticks played 136 games for Glenelg, not 138. I'm thinking I should change his State of Origin tally to 16, and his Total Games to 425.

That seems an oddity, as the SANFL count all appearances (including night series) as senior games, yet if the VFL/AFL did the same, Craig Bradley would be listed as having made 402 appearances for Carlton. Interesting.

WAFL as well?

Reasonably sure the WAFL don't include preseason games in player senior games totals. It would be good to have one of the regulars from the WAFL Stats thread read this and confirm.

On another note, in relation to your Most Senior Games table on page 111, you might be interested to know that in Kevin Murray's biography "Heart of the Lion" written by Chris Donald in 2005, he credits Murray with having played 12 games for Sandringham, not 24. In the stats at the back of the book Donald lists Murray as having played 5 games in 1975 and 7 in 1976.

What about Bluey?

Have made this change. Does anybody have a source for Stephen Kernahan? As far as I can tell, Sticks played 136 games for Glenelg, not 138. And 16 State of Origin games rather than 13.

The AFL Record Season Guide credits Kernahan with 136 games for Glenelg in its Hall of Fame section. Additionally, Kernahan's biography by Tony de Bolfo (1997) also states 136 games for Glenelg.

Were they 16 State of Origin games, or state games of any kind? This has him playing 16 games for SA, and I'd say some of them would have been non-SoO games:-

GAMES FOR SOUTH AUSTRALIA: 16

http://www.sanfl.com.au/hall_of_fame/stephen_s_kernahan/

Edit:- He played at least 3 games for SA vs WA (1983-84-85) that were not SoO matches. It was probably 13 State of Origin and 3 non-SoO games for SA.

The Lists forum State of Origin team lineups and goals thread has many (probably all) of the lineups for state games Kernahan played.

The old AFL statistics site club lists credited Kernahan with State games as follows:

4 up to & including 1986
1987: 1
1988: 2
1989: 1
1991: 1
1992: 1
1993: 1
1994: 1
1996: 1

Total 13

Those are all seemingly State of Origin games. He played for SA vs. Victoria in 1983-84-85-86 in SoO. He also played the 3 (I presume that's all) "state league" matches for SA (1983-84-85), before heading east in 1986.

I make Kernahan's 16 games for South Australia to be the following:

I have done an edit on Kernahan's South Australian games, putting the info into a table and including the dates and venues for posterity.

The W Bulldogs v St Kilda match was statistically fascinating on many fronts, but one that caught my eye were the runs of successive goals by teams.

For the match, they went:
3 WB
2 SK
8 WB
7 SK
2 WB
5 SK

Only six 'runs' of goals for the entire match, and not a single instance of 'goal for goal'.

*Paul*, since 2008 how many games have not featured at least one 'run' of a single goal?

And what are the fewest numbers of 'runs' of goals in a match?

I will tangle with those questions after a question of mine:

Travis Cloke was credited with 2.2 last Friday, however in the match commentary there appears only one behind attributed to him. Collingwood are marked with rushed behinds at 0:38 & 27:25 in the 1st qrt, and another at 7:36 in the 3rd. It appears as if one these should have been Cloke's or he only kicked 2.1.
Anyone recall these incidents?

I had to find another source of minute-by-minute scoring this year, which is proving to be a little dodgy.

The AFL website match centre gives time stamps of scores this year. Can't you use that?
