The major differences to when Lou made his tips is that they were accompanied by interesting articles. You read them each week to see if he would make one his dares. And he didn't always tip the least fancied team. Then, in the early 1980s, didn't he go head to head with Tinhead the computer? I like reading the Herald-Sun, but I hope they don't think their current Kiss of Death is a way of paying homage to Lou. Apparently The Age used to do something similar with a small dog "submitting" tips.

Among Lou's 'forfeits' in tipping the wrong team were sweeping Collins Street with a feather duster, cutting Ted Whitten's lawn with a pair of nail clippers and rowing Geelong's Bill Goggin across the Barwon River in a bathtub. Lou was theatre as well as print, radio and TV.

Amongst other things, yet not worthy of being inducted as an AFL Legend. My childhood memories of watching football wouldn't be the same without Lou's voice. He gave his life to the game and should be given the honour he deserves.

I read Ted Hopkin's book recently, he was behind Tinhead the computer.

Has Melbourne ever had a percentage worse than their current 50.24% after just 3 rounds?

Just to settle arguments on the main forum, where does Essendon's 115.94% rank in history for a 3-0 side?

Where do I get inside 50 stats from? I mean for older games from ages ago. Want to check Sydney v St Kilda in 2005 because have a feeling that was the previous lowest I-50 count until Brisbane today.

Which makes Essendon 2012, 216th out of 225 and Essendon's own 29th best out of 29 times being 3-0.

So where does GWS rank now? I think they were 9th or 10th worst in history after 2 rounds.

And where does West Coast rank with their % after 3 rounds?

GWS had not scored 100 points in aggregate after the first two rounds. Would this be the first time since St. Kilda in 1985?

And when was the last time a team did not have 100 points against after two rounds?

I see Gary Ablett now has 40+ possessions in each of his last four games.

45 against the Bombers, 40 against the Saints, 42 against the Crows and 43 against the Hawks last year.

Does anyone know who the last player was to do this?

Why is the final score of the 1914 1st SF now shown as South Melbourne 5.14 d Geelong 5.8 ?

The VFL Record (2nd SF) issue of 12 Sept 1914 on page 29 states:
"Everybody thought that a behind had been scored by Martini on Saturday after the last bell, but the official report of the goal umpires is that South Melbourne gained 5.14 and Geelong 5.7."

Probably because The Age and The Argus reported the score as 5.8 on the Monday following the match.

When Stephen Rodgers collected all the quarter by quarter scores in the 1980's for the first edition of Every Game Ever Played, 5.8 is what he came up with. (There was no big ledger book at League Headquarters with all the scores.) His research may have discovered that further scrutiny counted Martini's last behind. Or he may have missed the account in the Football Record.

You may be on to something.

I can contact the appropriate authorities for further investigation. Such errors are not unknown.
