StKilda - the present and the future (and maybe the past)

It's been well documented that the Saints have undertaken a radical list management operation to replenish their youth.

The likes of Goddard, Dal Santo and McEvoy have gone on to find new homes leaving a towering gap between the remaining stars of their GF era and the new breed of players. However, these young players with the exception of Steven (who will be missing the first 4-6 weeks of the season) don't seem to be coming on and there seems no ideal leadership prospects outside of him too.

With only a year or two left from the likes of Hayes, Riewoldt, Montagna, where will the Saints go from here?

Can they avoid the bottom two this year?
Which players are actually coming through to replace the previous generation?
Can the club literally survive another five years of severe on field and very likely off field pain?

I personally think that the St Kilda side of the next five years could blow Melbourne out of the pain and desperation that could occur.

Further to that, if you share my view, how do you fix it? Finding a CEO who is capable, let alone is willing to risk their career with St Kilda will be a tough find.

Membership is well and truely on the decline and their financial position is worsening by the day.

The on field pain may will kill this club before it saves it (and that assumes they actually can pick and develop good players).

So just how much trouble are the Saints in?
Thread worked out well.

Yes, taking one game in isolation when talking about entire seasons is a wonderful argument.

Enjoy the night Saints fans, but there is a long way to go.

He says of a thread he made immediately after the Saints lost a pre season game.

in season game > pre season game

So that means either this thread has merit or alternatively, the comments made about St Kilda are equally applicable to Essendon.

Saints were very good tonight, played an exciting brand of footy, I had em bottom 4 prior to the season, they claimed a fair scalp tonight.

Good teams will cut us up, but we'll give these mid table types a good run for their money.

Billings looks like one out of the box, his kicking is sublime.

Don't be so negative mate, there's no reason why you can't continue improving as the year goes on.

We still have a heap of room for improvement, too, with the likes of Fisher and Armitage due back as soon as next week and the likes of Steven and Schneider being better for the run tonight. A few others starting to knock down the door in the VFL, too, keeping everyone on their toes.

Not to mention how we'll likely continue to improve on applying the new game-plan.

Nope. Too busy getting pissed.

Admit you're wrong and move on..

Saints have been impressive this year.. Our development of our kids and implementation of our game plan has been A Grade thus far.. Very reminiscent of Port Adelaide and that is a good template to emulate

How warm is the water frog? Its cool over here.

This thread shows the stupidity of making big statements about lists you know nothing about.

Same was being said about Port just a year ago. The one thing BigFooty posters never seem to learn is how quickly things can turn around in footy.
