Just a thought Tony Shaw our 41st captain coached the side, Gavin Brown our 42nd captain coached the 2's, Bucks or 43rd captain is coaching us, Burns our 44th captain is and assistant Maxy said he has no desire to coach and then Pendles our 46th captain is our next coach

Let him do his apprenticeship elsewhere under an older head like Roos, Bomber, Lyon or maybe even Chocco. Pendles will come home to coach when the time is right. And he'll be better for it.

In any case, we still have another 5 years or so of good footy to look forward to, so let's just focus on that for the moment.

Well Pendles was saying on TV tonight he wants to be a coach, so what do reckon in about 8 years Pendles will be 36 and most likely done so he can become the assistant under Bucks for 3 years and then he can take over the side. What do you reckon?
What a great idea. Pendlebury coach, wonder if we give it to him two years after a flag or directly after losing a GF. You are an ideas man. I really like it.

Now that's positive thinking, I like it:thumbsu:

Prediction for 2024
- Pendels takes over from coach Buckley after a 2 year succession plan, where we make two GF in a row, winning the first one. Cue the whole SP vs NB debate, and everyone going this sounds familiar.
- Luke Ball is clubCEO
- Scott Burns is Director of Football after a short but successful term at Adelaide. He got sacked after winning 2 premierships in 4 years then failing to make the 8.
- Eddie is still president.
- BF server crashes due to overload.

Never understood this mentality. Get the best coach possible. And FFS, if it is a former Collingwood person - can we make sure they've done an apprenticeship outside of our system first?

No more succession plans thanks. If Pendlebury wants to coach then let him do an apprenticeship at another club or even ours if a position is available, but promise him nothing other than an objective appraisal of his ability to motivate men.

Where did McHale do his apprenticeship? Norm Smith? Barrassi? Hafey? Sheedy? Kennedy? Jeans? Face it guys the only thing that stands in the way of great coaches rising to the top are boards with a bad case of the "...fraids".

Almost all these guys were good oral motivators, whereas Pendlebury seems a relatively quiet person unlikely to inspire with a combination of personality and passionate speeches.

Have you ever spoken to him?

Have you ever spoken to him?
No. Have you? Does he strike you as Ron Barrassi-like in his delivery style? Can you envisage him haranguing and berating players with fiery verbal outbursts like Jeans and Kennedy might have done? Is he likely to intimidate others with just a look and prolonged silence like Sheedy was reputed to do?
