Round 10 v Baghdad Bombers
POTT:
The Bombers came to the BJ Oval (not to be confused with Rupanyup's) and met us on our own turf.
These were the the future pennantiers, so to win here would be a pretty nifty nab. But could we? Most said no. Those who said yes, were us. The thread got off to an awesome start with Jobe popping in for no apparent reason and responding to some post that must have been deleted as it sure wasn't relevant to anything. Fred reminded us how important he was, then we had 3 pages of namecalling using tv show quotes and that was about it. Oh, Jobe came to the rescue with something that bears reposting:
I thought that was a nice gesture, I'd ask for more but don't want to push my luck.

Anyways, the thread only really got active on matchday, I wasn't there so it was at least comprehensible, and all the Roys wanted from the game was to not have yet another last-quarter fadeout. We went on to lead most of the match before having yet another last-quarter fadeout.

Round 11 v Geelong Gumbies

It was Gumby time again, and with our grasp on a finals place eking away times were becoming desperate. Maybe, if we didn't make the four, we could do the usual and shape the **** out of it. The Gumbies were also playing pretty crap so this was surely our chance for four points. Even Freakie was unable to kick four points last week (he kicked 3, a certain fourth behind falling off with the breeze into the goals).
This was labelled Carnivale Round. IMS popped in to slag off some Gumbies recruit, StFly made an obscure reference to having met some Roys, and finally Lion Cub reminded us there was a match on. That lasted a minute, then it was all about drinking from hollow legs attached to foreheads. IMS followed up by mentioning a good song.

Then we got compared to the Village People. Ahh well, it had to leak out eventually. We stuck with the Gumbies before fading away in the second half.

Round 12 v Mt Buller Demons
POTT: There weren't any. Every single one was crap. Even the OP sucked. And the stats. Especially the stats.
Under new management, Team Pump had hit their straps and were on their way to a GF berth. We, on the other hand, had strapped concrete boots on and were diving for Murray cray. As if I could get any skinnier.
StKildaMan delighted us with his OP intro of ">Insert match preview here<" and we were off and running with a fanciful thread of fondue and folliculitis. Tattoos came up a bit, and this was the first thread that caused me the need to edit a post whilst reviewing.
We moved on into evening and the Roys went to bed, leaving the Dees up on their own to talk about slurpees. I am so sad for myself that I just read it all.

Hundreds of posts of utter dribble later, we lost. We only lasted one quarter this time, and into the bargain had 5 more scoring shots than the lawnmowers.

This winner was a little easier to choose than the others. There was one standout player, and eventually the larger number of goals he kicked settled the matter with the judges. Congratulations Freakie for your s**t kicking but generally decent haul of goals over the season Certainly did better for us than Jeff Hogg did.

Round 13 v Fighting Furies

While we were pretty much done for, the Fighting Furies still had a fighting chance to make the finals. They had to beat us, though, and we didn't want that. Oh now. We didn't. No. Therefore, bring on Round Thirteen!
Let's see. We're old, we're s**t, We can't run. It's too humid. That was about the size of a compact match thread. Misplaced fingers and a nice screensaver rounded out a curvy posts and quotational jubblies. Most japes would fail to have caught the attention of even a baby eye. Oh God.

In the match itself, we cruised along to 1/4 time ensuring we had a tame lead to lose from. We then proceeded to coast through to half time maintaining a lame lead that we could easily give up. Traipsing daintily through to the final change we erected a game lead that would be spiritually fulfilling to surrender. Then we stuffed everything up and won. Reardo's inspired move of Fred to full forward paid immediate dividends with the ancient and justified admin hamming it up via a Freakie impression: 3 goals 7 behinds.

Hitting the ground running, snapping some of the running off the ground and replacing it with meringue, was IMS, plete with backhanded compliments. No, wait, replete was what I meant, for he's done this before. In fact he held the fort for the Hawks at openings, as that other kid doesn't count. Hold that fort. You'll Keep. IMS also made a pass at Broken.

In the penultimate round of our season, we again came up against the Baghdad Bombers, who I don't think we'd beaten in quite some time. They were a power side in a poor form slump, with just one win from the last 5 rounds. We, on the other hand, had won our last three.
People started remembering there was a Late Bloomers Cup we fight out once a season, but started forgetting it was already played for in Round 2. There was a lot of mathematical jabberin', a bit about fibre supplementation, and then a shower.

After the above exchange, the thread became a Glin McGraw appreciation thread, with a smattering of serial pestilence. After a while there was actually some discussion of how this would decide the winner of the wooden spoon. Oh, and Freakie went back to Full Forward. Then J3V turned up and the question became: why? At least the shitfight between Juggs and the Hawks had some relevance. By the time loopy posted the match, it's main purpose was to shut everybody up.

Then came more sensation, well, some sensation, as the aforegoing was basically dreck. The Hawks had mucked something up with their team submission, and were to lose points for it. More concerning was the possibility that a resim might be called for. ESH chose not to purse that option and due respect for that choice.
