ROUND 5

The season is only new, being 4 rounds through, but this game had the hallmarks of a must win game. To both establish that the Roys losing ways are behind them and most importantly to claim the inaugural FattyLumpkin Stein from the Swamprats.
Whether it was the shellshock from last weeks loss, or bad flashbacks to last season, the Roys started out poorly. The Swamprats were the only team to hit the scoreboard in the first 10 minutes of the game, but fortunately it was infrequent and inaccurate as they only led by 9 points. Quick goals to fitzroybulldog and 3KZ is Football erased that deficit and the Roys started to regain their composure as they took a 15 point lead in to the first break.
A goal and behind to Freakie extended the lead along with a behind to Roylion as we jumped out to a 23 point lead. The Swamprats answered with two quick goals and the lead was down to 11 halfway through the quarter. The Swamprats tightened up in their backline and stopped the Roys from scoring for the rest of the first half. The same couldn’t be said of the Roys backline who allowed the Swamprats to add 6 more scoring shots. Resulting in 6 behinds. Which left the Roys still in front at the half.
The Swamprats continued pegging back the lead one point at a time to cut the lead to 4, that was quickly answered by a Cheetah miss, then Wona goaled, Reardo went wide and Cheetah made amends with a goal to put the lead back out to 18 points. We couldn’t shake the Rats who closed to within 2 goals at the last break.
An early goal to the Swamprats made it close but the Roys, no doubt inspired by visions of holding the Stein aloft, surged. Goals to FitzroyRamone and Wonaeamirri33 were surrounded by 6 Roys behinds which pushed the lead out to 4 goals halfway through the last. The Rats answered with a goal, but Wonaeamirri33 kicked his 3rd goal of the game and, sensing it was the clincher, put on a celebration that has been turned into a GIF used far and wide. A behind to each team closed out the game and ensured the Roys had win number 4.

ROUND 6

Another test awaited us this week as we hosted a typically strong West Coast Wonders team that were one game behind us on the ladder. Even though they were on a 2 game losing streak, had lost the class of wmoore, and they had ex-Roy pantskyle among them, they weren’t to be taken lightly.
From the opening bounce Cheetah, Fred and Slax were busy, and lined up a few Wonders, as the Roys skipped out to a 19 point lead 10 minutes in to the first quarter. The Wonders hadn’t scored in that time but they, like the Roys FFC fans, were starting to realize this is a much improved Roys team and stepped it up a notch. 3KZ is Football and Cannon82 kicked truly for the Roys, but the Wonders scored more than that to even out the contest at quarter time.
The Roys refocused and started the scoring in the second half with a goal and behind. Then the Wonders refocused themselves and banged on 3 goals. Cannon82 kicked his third and the Wonders responded with another goal as they kept us out by 11 points. Then it was the Roys turn for a hattrick of goals which gave us a 7 point lead. The Wonders pegged that back to 1 late in the quarter and that’s where it remained at the half.
The Roys opened the scoring again courtesy of a Cheetah major, but the backline was finding it hard stopping the Wonders from scoring as they let through another trio of goals. Facing an 11 point deficit the Roys tried to keep up the scoreboard pressure with a behind to Freakie, a behind to royboy2, a behind to Cheetah and another behind to Freakie. The Wonders got in with the inaccuracy parade with a pair of their own before actually finding the target to take the matches biggest lead: 14 points. Two late goals to CM Sean and Reardo kept the contest close setting up a big final term.
The last quarter was the only quarter where the Roys didn’t score first, as the Wonders scored a goal, but we made up for it after that with 2 goals 2 behinds to regain the lead. Our 6 point margin was whittled down to 5 before the Wonders gained it back with a goal. 14 minutes in and the Roys scrambled to rush a behind and we were down by 2. fitzroybulldog had a chance to put us up with a bomb from the wing, but it narrowly missed. From the kick in Cannon82 intercepted and fed a quick handball to royboy2 who kicked truly! The resulting center bounce led to a freekick to wmoore who dished off to FitzroyRamone who sprayed his shot. And there was a goal in it. The Wonders again failed to clear courtesy of Cannon82 and this time he did it himself as he kicked his fifth goal of the game. The teams battled around in the midfield, which helped the Roys nurse a 12 point lead, until wmoore lost patience and bombed it from the wing. The ball swayed in the wind but swayed the right way through the sticks giving the Roys an 18 point lead with 2 minutes remaining! The Roys locked it down and after 6 rounds they had already passed last seasons win total.

It’s time for the flea29 award. Serious? Flea29? Did he just come off dog29? Heheheheehehe OK, OK.
This award is given to the biggest improver from the previous season and was named after flea29 who was the most improved between seasons 13 and 14.

Cheetah shook off the flea29 curse that befell previous winners flea29 and Maroon Goon to continue his strong work for the Roys. The Roys hope for more of the same from this seasons winner who became a solid presence around the match threads, team threads and the SFA board. That player is….

3KZ is Football

Will we hear some words from this improved mutha *er? Let’s see. In the meantime I hear after this round the Roys picked up a player who left his club because they didn’t like mama jokes. What the * is wrong with these people? Mama jokes are the mutha ******* best.

ROUND 7

The Roys returned from the Christmas break ready for Round 7 and were surprised when someone from the Round 6 game hadn’t left the BJO. Wonders player pantskyle refused to go home with the Wonders team after the last match and he found his way back on the Roys list.
Would he be an asset, or a liability, as we hosted the 2nd placed Dragons? More importantly would the Roys drop the 250th SFA game played by Mobbenfuhrer?
Wmoore carried over his red hot form of last week with a score in the first 30 seconds. Freakie goaled soon after and the crowd sensed the Roys were on. Copious amounts of chudshakes proved their judgment to be wrong as the Dragons responded with a pair of goals. Freakie kicked his 2nd which was matched by the Dragons. A rushed Roys behind was followed by Freakie kicking his 3rd, again matched by the Dragons. So Freakie kicked his 4th - and the Dragons followed up with a goal of their own to help them stay ahead in the first quarter where the scores were Dragons 6.3. Roys 5.3. Freakie 4.1
Pantskyle paid back the Roys faithful by opening with a burst of one goal 2 behinds to open the 2nd quarter scoring. Wonaeamirri33 followed up with a goal to hand us an 8 point lead. The Dragons cut it to 1 point before fitzroybulldog opened it to 7. The Dragons kicked a pair of goals and Freakie snagged his 5th goal which gave the Roys a 1 point lead. A rushed behind to the Dragons locked up the scores at the break.
The opening of the 3rd quarter saw each team trade goals. The Dragons goaled, Fred goaled, the Dragons goaled, Reardo goaled. Freakie wasn’t missing out and he kicked his 6th, then 7th and 8th. Which helped push the Roys out to a 26 point lead. Some late scoring from the Dragons got the lead back to 13 points coming in to the last quarter.
Reardo opened the last term with a quick goal. Freakie booted his 9th goal early in the period. Shortly after Freakie had his hands on the leather and the crowd watched his shot at a 10th goal go astray. Slax goaled 10 minutes in to the last period and a FitzroyRamones goal had the Roys up by 38 points halfway through the last quarter, but the Dragons started to come back. With just under 14 minutes gone in the last quarter the Dragons cut the lead to 32 points. Then nobody scored for the rest of the game!

ROUND 8

With only one loss for the season we were two games clear of second place and we were very confident coming up against the reigning premiers in the Gumbies. This game also marked the 300th game for Fred and the Roys had all the incentive in the world to win this one.
The Gumbies got the early jump but the Roys were confident and goals to Wonaeamirri33 and Freakie bookended a couple of rushed behinds and we took an early 2 point lead. A Gumbies miss halved that margin before Wona and Freakie each kicked their second and we held a 13 point lead 20 minutes in to the game. The Gumbies peppered the goals to close out the term, but it wasn’t enough to take the lead off the Roys who led by 4 at the change.
The Gumbies finished off their peppering with a goal to open the 2nd quarter, but Freakies 3rd saw the Roys on top again. It was tough going with Mobbenfuhrer and DickyFitzwell working hard for the Roys, but the Gumbies worked a bit harder and took a 3 point lead halfway through the quarter. That 3 point margin was reduced to zero courtesy of 3 scoring shots and only a last gasp goal from the Gumbies separated the teams after one tough half.
The Gumbies pushed their advantage stretching out to 13 points and the match descended in to an arm wrestle with the Gumbies slightly on top as they crawled out to a 19 point lead. A behind to Wona followed by a Slax goal cut the gap to 12 points, but the Roys needed to find a way through the Gumbies backline to stand a chance of winning this game.
The Gumbies had similar intents with the Roys backline as they opened with a goal. A bit of sizzle from Ptizzle could only result in a behizzle and the Gumbies locked it down again. They also found a way through the Roys back half as they banged on 4 goals to shoot to a 41 point lead. A goal to Volta 15 minutes in to the quarter was followed by a goal to PTizzle to give a glimmer of hope, but the Gumbies responded. Wmoore goaled and the Gumbies responded again to hold a 6 goal lead with a few minutes remaining. Some junk time scores gained a small amount of respectability in what was a poor end to a hard fought game.

ROUND 9

Rivalry round saw us traveling to the Adbu Prison to take on the Bombers and attempt to reclaim the estranged Late Bloomers Cup. Despite us heading the ladder and the Bombers struggling in 8th place this match wasn’t a given as the Bombers had an impressive recent record against the Roys.
The Roys weren’t underestimating the Bombers and we were ON from the first bounce. Reardo tapped it down to fitzroybulldog who passed it off to Cheetah who bombed a goal. A minute later Volta goaled and he followed it up with another soon after. Cheetah also kicked his second and after 7 minutes the Roys held a 27 point lead and the Bombers had yet to score. The Bombers opened their account with a goal, then the Roys avalanche continued. Goals to Grin, 3KZ is Football and Freakie followed and a late Bombers goal cut our lead to 35 points to end the first quarter.
The Bombers started the 2nd quarter as they ended the first. However that was the Bombers only score for the quarter as the Roys kept coming. A pair of behinds was followed by goals to Freakie and Fred. Another Roys behind was followed by 3KZ is Football and Freakie goals to propel the Roys to a 56 point lead at halftime.
The Roys backline of Ptizzle, Slax and FitzroyRamone changed in to long sleeves in an effort to stay warm due to the little action they were seeing. The Bombers mounted a small charge with a pair of misses then Roylion and Grin joined the goal party. The Bombers again added a pair of behinds then found another gear as they banged on 4 goals straight to get to within 7 goals of the Roys. Grin kicked another to put the lead to 47 with a quarter to play.
Fred, Reardo and Freakie helped push the lead out to 54 points halfway through the last quarter. The Roys only interest in the scoreboard by now was who won Race 7 at Caulfield as the game resorted to Roys players attempting to win cars by taking hangers and lairising around. The Bombers managed to save some face, but they were still ugly.

You Roys are ******* flying 7 wins from 9 games. I bet you Roys get all the pussy – well maybe not that guy at the top of the leaderboard. With a name like Reardo he sounds like he likes the brothers more heheheheehee.
He’s married? Get the * out!

OK we got another award to hand out and it’s the royboy2 award for the most consistent mutha *er this season. This award was named, obviously, for royboy2 on the back of his consistent posting in Season 14.

A lot of players stepped up to the plate this season to contribute to the Roys greatness, but the dude who could be counted on each week consistently and more resembling a Season 14 Royboy2 was ….

Hey it’s mutha *er who just got the 29 fleas!….. 3KZ is Football

Now I expect to be hearing from this consistent dude. While we wait I’ll let you know I’m not unfamiliar with the Sweet FA. Did you know I joined the Gumbies – they nearly made a movie about it too.

ROUND 10

We entered the second half of the season having taken the league by storm – and surprise – and we were looking to repeat our first half success by defeating the Hawks for the 2nd time this season.
The difference between us and our 7th placed opponents showed early as the Roys jumped out to an early lead, but the Hawks stepped up to match our quality – or we dropped to match theirs – as they leapfrogged us to take a 19 point lead halfway through the term. Grin, Volta and pantskyle helped bring it back to 6 before the Hawks pushed it back to 19.
Goals to Freakie and pantskyle got the lead back to 5 points early in the 2nd quarter before the Hawks took control of the game again, but they couldn’t put us away. Freakie goaled to bring us within 6 points before the Hawks pushed it back out to 14 at the half.
The Hawks jumped us to open the half. 2 goals in as many minutes had us down by 26. We answered in kind with goals to Bosk and Freakie but we couldn’t halt the Hawks scoring as they extended their lead to 21 points.
The Roys left the 3 quarter time huddle knowing we were better than the Hawks and with a determination to stop their scoring. Halfway through the quarter the Hawks had inched out to a 25 point lead but fitzroybulldog gave us hope with a goal. The teams scrapped to get the elusive next score with the Hawks coming out on top, scoring a behind. Then 2 goals. Then another behind. Then another goal. Putting the game out of reach with the quarter drawing to an end.

ROUND 11

The Royals were the next team to travel to the Brunswick Junction Oval to take on the ladder leading Roys and we were looking to avenge last weeks loss by thumping the struggling visitors.
The heavens opened, greeting the two teams with a generous helping of rain as the match started. The sodden field paid dividends from the get go as Reardo palmed down to Fitzroybulldog whose kick from midfield bounced across the wet turf to score the Roys first goal! The Royals turned on their wet weather skills, leading to a behind, before the game started to bog down. The teams went scoreless for 9 minutes before Volta sprayed a shot but Grin kicked truly less than a minute later giving the Roys a 2 goal lead. Grin kicked another goal following a Roys behind and that helped the Roys to a 19 point margin at the first change.
The Royals trebled their scoring shots early in the 2nd quarter with 2 behinds and kept rolling with 2 goals after that. Halfway through the 2nd quarter the Roys hadn’t added to their quarter time score and only led by 5. Soon after Fred made that lead 6, and Cheetah pushed it to 12. A late Royals score cut it to 11 points with the first half in the books.
Carn the Roys! opened the second half with a goal but the Royals, true to form, let us know they were around getting within 5 points despite Grin kicking his 3rd. The Roys backline tightened up and the midfield started to get on top which led to a blizzard of Roys scoring. The Roys scored goals via Grin, Cheetah and Freakie and also added 5 behinds, while shutting out the Royals, to take a 28 point lead with one quarter to go.
Grin kicked his 5th to start the last quarter and Freakie scored another behind to make up the only scoring for the first 11 minutes of the period. At this point our 35 point lead was looking safe. FitzroyRamone added a goal, which the Royals pegged back, but FitzroyRamone closed out the game with his 2nd and 3rd goals to give the Roys a win that looked easier than it was.

ROUND 12

Like Lewinski to Clinton, MOTR was becoming a welcome moniker to the Roys. This time it was our 1st placed heroes taking on the 2nd placed toffs from Mount Buller.
The Demons had a habit of not being able to put teams away and we were planning to use our newfound ability to run out games to take full advantage.
The running out of games looked to be more crucial as the Demons scored the first goal after a minute, followed by a 4 goals 6 behinds, giving them a 36 point lead against the scoreless Roys. Volta and pantskyle added majors within 30 seconds of each other, but we were still 25 points in the negative.
Realising it was a bad idea to put on Question Time before the match the Roys finally snapped out of their slumber after the Demons added 7 early 2nd quarter points. Fitzroybulldog, Broken, Cheetah and Grin all kicked truly and helped reduce the margin to 14 points at the big break.
Someone must have cranked up Question Time at half time as the Roys were caught napping (again), as they watched the Demons bang on 5 goals and charge to a 46 point lead midway through the quarter. The Roys added the next 6 scoring shots, but only 2 hit the target and when the Demons added a goal and behind the deficit was up to 37 points.
Despite the margin, tails were up as we were expecting the Demons to fade and the Roys jumped out of the gate with 3 goals 2 behinds within the first 5 minutes. The margin was now 17 points, but the Roys could not conquer their Demons as we were unable to get any closer at this point.

Over my career I’ve played a convict, a policeman, a donkey, a vampire, an African prince, a fat lady, a fat man, a doctor that hears animals and many other roles. A scattered variety is welcomed in Hollywood, not so much in the Sweet FA. That leads us to our next award.

The ItsMyShow award, given to the Roys most prolific (or spammiest) poster for the season, is named after Itsmyshow who, as a Roy, spammed his way through Season 13.
Despite only posting for half the season this winner still ended up with the 3rd most posts for the Roys for season 17 – with 6 100+ posts in match threads to open the season. That poster is…

Wonaeamirri33

Despite his massive output we don’t expect him to step forward with a speech (or GIF) :(

Soooooo, this is all done on a mutha ******* computer. When I was in my prime we had computers that tried to hook up with hot bitches and computers that made hot bitches and, no, I wasn’t high on coke, check this s**t out!

6 rounds to go and the heat is on. Let’s ride this mutha *er to the end.

ROUND 13

Surprisingly in this weeks Roys-Furies matchup it was the Roys who were at the top of the table and the Furies were at the bottom. One of the Furies few wins this season came at the expense of the Roys and we were determined not to make it a 2nd loss to the cellar dwelling, Richmond sympathising scum.
The Furies goaled first which woke up the Roys who, courtesy of 2 goals and 2 behinds to Freakie, took a 9 point lead in as many minutes in to the first quarter. The Furies found a way to stop the Roys scoring while adding 10 points themselves to take a narrow lead, but scores from Cheetah and a Mobbenfuhrer in a rare foray forward gave the Roys a 1 point lead at the first change.
The 2nd quarter opened with 6 straight goals kicked between the teams, with Freakie and Fred scoring for the Roys, which saw us facing an 11 point deficit. Freakie chipped that deficit away with another goal, and Cheetah with another behind and the Roys were closing. The Furies decided otherwise as they drew away again to 12 points before another Freakie goal and a score to Fred reduced the margin to 5 at the half.
The Furies opened the second half with a score, which was followed by 6 more Furies scores and their lead opened out to 32 points. 3 Roys behinds had minimal impact on the margin and the Furies banged on 5 more scores to race out to a 44 point lead.
Despite some scoring by both teams the 44 point margin remained halfway through the last term. Despite the Roys getting within 31 points the game had well and truly gone and a 2nd loss to the Furies this season had arrived.
