Preliminary Final Preview

Richmond and West Coast now find themselves just one win away from a Grand Final berth. The Tigers fans have had to wait a long time for this. Their last Grand Final appearance was 32 years ago in 1982 when they went home empty handed. While the Eagles last made it to the Grand Final 8 years ago in 2006 when they won the flag.

Richmond have been the benchmark of the competition all year, going into the finals series as minor premiers. While West Coast comfortably made the finals, finishing the minor round in 6th. In recent history very few sides have come from outside the top 4 to win a premiership, but West Coast are in form and ready to prove their doubters wrong against the highly fancied Richmond side.

On paper these two sides are very evenly matched, and we're expecting to see a great game. West Coast has the stronger ruck division which will help to get their onballers first use and may negate some of the advantage that the Tigers have in the midfield. The Tigers to win in a close one. Tip: 1-10 points.

Coaches' comments: We have had to make a bit of a shift around due to the forced changes so now Lachie Keefe comes in to help pinch hit in the ruck while Javier Lane goes back and Sean Mousdale drifts forward. This is a cut-throat match now and there's no turning back. We want to make that Grand Final.

Grand Final Preview

After 24 rounds of intense competition, and three weeks of finals we've reached the end - the 2014 Premiers, while the loser faces bitter disappointment and a long odd season wait before they can come back for revenge.

Richmond have been the benchmark of the competition all year, going into the finals series as minor premiers. While Collingwood comfortably made the finals, finishing the minor round in 5th. In recent history very few sides have come from outside the top 4 to win a premiership, but Collingwood are in form and ready to prove their doubters wrong against the highly fancied Richmond side.

On paper Collingwood look to have a clear advantage and the Tigers are going to have to be at their best to have any chance of winning. Collingwood has the stronger ruck division combined with their midfield advantage is going to make life difficult for the Tigers. Tip: Collingwood by 36-48 points.

2014 Grand Final
Richmond vs Collingwood

B: Austin Kellaway - Harry O'Brien - Kyle Cakebread
HB: Chandler Hewitt - Alex Rance - Javier Lane
C: Jack Grimes (c) - Andrew Swallow - Travis Boak
HF: Ryan Gamble - Jaylen Sandiford - Sean Mousdale
F: Dustin Martin - Jack Riewoldt - Griffin Kerridge
R: Abraham Loscombe - Angelo Mayo - Brett Deledio (vc)
INT: Trent Cotchin - Lachlan Keefe - Edgar Clack
SUB: Reece Conca

EMG: Kenneth Bomford - Trenton Cape - Aidan Hainworth

IN: Ryan Gamble, Reece Conca
OUT: Travis Varcoe (Injured), Neville Jetta (Injured)

Coaches' comments: We were shocked when both Travis and Neville were ruled out because both have played so well this year, particularly Neville who was so instrumental in the second half of the year. We don't need to say how important this is for the team and its supporters. We haven't won a flag in the past thirty years so the time is now. We got the wooden spoon last year and are looking to do something no-one else has ever done, win a premiership after winning a wooden spoon. Go Tigers!

RICHMOND ARE PREMIERS!
As the Tigers and Pies met for the first time in a Grand Final since 1980, they were both ready to go for it. Richmond won the wooden spoon last year and have come from nowhere to win the minor premiership and have the shot to do something no-one has ever done. Jack Riewoldt booted the first goal of the Grand Final in the 7th minute of the first quarter. After the Pies drew within five points in the last quarter, the Tigers shifted into premiership mode, booting the last five goals of the match to claim their first premiership since 1980 where they in fact beat the Pies. Jack Riewoldt booted nine goals in the win, while Jack Grimes and Brett Deledio were once again amongst the best. Surprisingly Brad Dick won the Norm Smith for his 34 disposals in the losing side.

RICHMOND 4.5---5.10---12.12---17.16.118
COLLINGWOOD 1.0---5.4---11.6---12.9.81

Trenton Cape wins Rising Star Award

The judges have declared this season's Rising Star Award to be Richmond's very promising young Trenton Cape. He was nominated for his round 2 effort. He produced an elite performance against Port Adelaide, picking up 20 possessions, 6 tackles. His 11 contested possessions around the stoppages were a highlight of his game.

Richmond vice captain Brett Deledio has won the 2014 Best and Fairest. He managed to win ahead of Jack Riewoldt and Captain Jack Grimes. Jack Riewoldt won the highest goal kicker to go with his Coleman Medal, while Jaylen Sandiford won the best first year player.

Trade Week 2014:

Jorge Hatfield (Richmond) for Nathan Jones (Brisbane)

This was an interesting trade. We felt Jorge was solid in the reserves, but too many players had gone past him, and since Brisbane were looking for a bit more youth, while Nathan Jones can play inside or out and can drift back or forward, so he will be a very solid recruit. We're happy with this trade.

Ben Stratton, Picks 53 & 70 (Richmond) for Sam Gilbert (St. Kilda)

We are pumped that we were able secure Sam's services. We feel that he offers us a lot with his flexibility both back and forward. He will come in as our oldest player, but he'll slot in very nicely. With our youth coming through, he can help keep them honest.

Mitch Farmer (Richmond) for Pick 51 (Hawthorn)

Just a bargain basement trade here because Mitch needed a team that will guarantee him a spot, and while he's been solid for us, we felt he needed a change, and it gives us another pick.

Brennan Colcott & Pick 51 (Richmond) for Pick 27 (Brisbane)

He's our third in line tagger behind Mayo and Clack so we thought its probably better he finds another club. In return we gained another good pick.

Kenneth Bomford & Damon Mitchley (Richmond) for Picks 43 & 60 (Geelong)

Two more players who couldn't manage a game this year, so we manage to get them to another club to try and further their career. In return, we gain a couple more picks to recruit players.

Congrats on the Premiership!

Who won the Brownlow? Did any of your players get close?

Taylor Walker won with 31 votes. Brett Deledio and Austin Kellaway were closest with 18 votes. So no, not really haha.

Wow congrats :)

Are you going to stay with Richmond or take on another challenge?

Yeah I'm going for back-2-back :thumbsu:

2014 National Draft Selections:

Pick #17 - Julian Bassano (Wynard, Tasmania)
Outside Midfielder with elite skill and acceleration, good clearance ability

Pick #27 - Alan Orger (South Fremantle, WA)
Good endurance and skill, can play in a variety of roles across the midfield, up forward or down back

Pick #36 - Jeremy Brudenell (South Fremantle, WA)
Small forward with a huge leap, great acceleration and goal sense. Will fill a need up forward

Pick #43 - Jose Elgar (Unknown)
Got good skill and endurance and can play inside or outside

Pick #60 - Pass

Pre-Season Draft:

Ethan O'Donnell (Western Bulldogs)
Outside midfielder who couldn't get a game after being taken at Pick #43 in the draft last year. We believe he is a solid prospect who has a chance of breaking into the midfield if he works hard enough.

Rookie Draft:

Luke Parker (Western Suburbs)
After being delisted by the Swans, he has worked well in the reserves to earn another senior list spot.

Mark Birkin (Bendigo)
Fresh off being delisted from Essendon, he is just 19 and will be a good ruckman given Vickery is out for most of the season.

Josh Winchurch (Unknown)
Another ruck just to fill our stocks so we are safe in case of injury. We felt we were a little short this year.

Liam Broadley (Dandenong)
Delisted by the Swans last season, played extremerely well for Dandenong and was one of my favourites at the Swans. Another experienced player to our list.

Richmond to play kids in pre-season

Reigning premiers Richmond are going in with a primarily youth based side while resting the more experienced players. They are playing North Melbourne first up and the Kangaroos will go in as favourites who will field no less than four first gamers. This will be more of a test to see who can handle it at the elite level before going into the season proper.

Richmond go down, but kids gain valuable experience

Richmond have lost to the Kangaroos by 43 points at Etihad Stadium, but coach John Longmire was upbeat. "We won the premiership last year, we know what we are capable of, we just played a youth side, with the new blokes to see how they could cope. Sam Gilbert was very good for us, while Trent Cotchin suggested he could take the next step. Abraham Loscombe collected 21 disposals which is his best game as well. I'm looking forward to the season proper."

Richmond face off with Collingwood in Grand Final rematch

Richmond and Collingwood are opening the season with a Grand Final rematch clash that is sure to have the pundits and fans licking their lips. Richmond will be missing Tyrone Vickery who missed out on the premiership due to his knee injury, while Collingwood will be without Damian Savage who was taken with Pick 21 in the 2013 draft but didn't manage to play a senior game last season.

Richmond then play Essendon, North Melbourne, Gold Coast and Fremantle.

Despite their premiership last year, Richmond are only second favourite for the flag behind Collingwood, so it would not be a surprise if this was a cracker match.

Lines signs contract extension on eve of season start

Richmond young gun Oliver Lines has put away any rumours that he is interested in changing clubs at the end of the season. The 18 year old was taken with Pick #1 in the 2013 Draft and was the first player chosen by new coach John Longmire. Unfortunately he missed out on the premiership due to injury, but he was hungry to go it again. "I'm really thrilled to be a part of this club, and now its on paper till the end of 2017" Lines said today. It is believed the deal was a three year deal worth $1 million. It is believed both Adelaide and Port Adelaide were chasing the South Australian's signature.
