The talented player pathway is being developed so that the female AFL teams planned for the future will have the player pool to select from. Here in Victoria the first step will be to grow Youth Girls sufficiently to support a TAC Cup style competition.

AFL Victoria’s Youth Girls Academy Community Camp
03.02.12
AFL Victoria’s Youth Girls Academy will visit north eastern Victoria this weekend for its annual Community Camp.
Over 60 of Victoria’s most promising under 18 Youth Girls players, and 13 of the State’s best female field umpires will spend two days in Albury and Wodonga preparing for a hectic football year ahead, that will include the AFL’s National Youth Girls Under 18 Championships in Adelaide in May.
“The Community Camp is a great opportunity to grow the awareness of female football in the region, as well as helping with the development of over 70 females who are involved in football either as players or umpires,” AFL Victoria’s Female Development Manager Chyloe Kurdas said.
“The Albury-Wodonga region was chosen to assist the Ovens & Murray Football League’s plans to establish their own four team Youth Girls competition in 2012, so we hope the visit from the Youth Girls Academy will help grow interest and highlight the pathway available for females in football.”
The Community Camp will see the players and umpires based at Albury Sports Ground on the Saturday to undertake leadership development, community service, engage with local media, fitness training and football training.
The playing and umpiring groups will then conduct a free super clinic at 10am on Sunday at Wodonga Senior Secondary College, giving local girls a taste of what is to come when their own competition gets underway.
The weekend will close with an intra squad exhibition match at 12:30pm involving the Youth Girls Academy players and umpires. The match will provide selectors with their first opportunity of the year to observe potential State players under match conditions.
