Re: Chris Johnson: 128 yards for 2,000.

Given what Ryan Grant and Brandon Jackson did to Seattle on Sunday the 2000 appears a certainty, and it would be awesome to see the all time record go as well.

Re: Chris Johnson: 128 yards for 2,000.

Dickerson > Johnson.
I hope he doesn't break the record.
Just like Marino > Brees/Gannon/etc who have come close.

Records are made to be broken. Although i think this one is out of reach.

Will finish on 2,041.

Re: Chris Johnson: 128 yards for 2,000.

Have to agree I think he'll make it to 2.000 yards but don't think he'll reach dickerson unless the titans try to help him, but the best way to help him is to play BALANCED otherwise Seattle will just shut down on the run and he won't stand a chance.

Re: Chris Johnson: 128 yards for 2,000.

I'd like to see him get 2000, but probably not the all time record... it's only his second season. Plenty of time...

Well, since Dickerson rushed for 2,105 in only his second season, it seems only fair that it would be this year that Johnson should break it.

So what are the odds that he's got another 2,000 yard season in him?

Simpson, Dickerson, Sanders, Davis, Lewis. No-one's ever had two 2,000 yard seasons (although I dare say that if Barry Sanders played for a team that had some semblance of an O-Line, he would be so far out in front of the others it would be scary).

Re: Chris Johnson: 128 yards for 2,000.

I think I read somewhere that CJ broke a record held by Marshall Faulk for the most yards from scrimmage in one season - something like 2470. That's a fair achievement.

Re: Chris Johnson: 128 yards for 2,000.

I hope no one beats Marino's record. And there are many other records from the past to obscure or well-known players that I hope never get broken. Especially because of how many of those old records came in eras that were a lot tougher. Unlike say the soft pass-friendly rules/style today.

Marino's records are falling left, right & centre GG.. what of Marino's record/s is still standing? (I can't be bothered looking it up...)

HBO tribute.

Chris Johnson doesn't have the size to pound his way to immortality. Will burn out before he gets to his fifth season.... I hope I'm WRONG but that's my prediction.

Chris Johnson OPY

So can someone explain to me how the MVP of the league, isn't the OPY or the DPY?

I believe CJ should've been the MVP, but given that it was awarded to Peyton how can say that Manning was the best player in the league, the most valuable, but wasn't the best offensive player? I don't get it.

I don't agree with the MVP award, they should simply have Player of the Year.

Peyton was voted most valuable. I suppose this means most influential/important. Yet if you vote Johnson as OPY then surely the best player of the year (whether it is the DPY or OPY) was also the most influential. Surely??

Re: Chris Johnson OPY

What are the criteria for each of the awards?

I see the MVP as not just being someone with good stats, winning record etc, but someone who the NFL also gets value from a marketing, publicity role model perspective. Based on that Manning is a fine choice.

Johnson as OPY I think is a good choice as I see it as been based just on raw stats.

Re: Chris Johnson OPY

Dunno about Johnson, but I think Manning reflects the fact that if the colts did not have him, what would their record have been? He was most valuable to gaining them the victories they got.

Not the same as necessarily performing the best on the offensive side of the ball- he played well, but Johnson played beter....

Suspect that is how the voters look at it- not saying it is the right thing

Re: Chris Johnson OPY

TGBB states the truth... MVP can mean alot of things... heck, even injured Troy Polamalu is a MVP of the league still. Player Of the Year is what becomes of rising to immense proportions & feats that all the QB's work is left for his receivers to make the QB's numbers look BIGGER & BETTER. Chris Johnson has been a sensation from the get-go and having his team miss the play-offs has really disadvantaged him. Peyton Manning is forever the class of QB's but having a better D is just making sure he can get away with so-so performances that has disguised his season of being truly outstanding. The 14-0 start was a team effort. Colts won't win in the play-offs if Peyton is left to do all the hard work... the Colts D will need to show up.

Re: Chris Johnson OPY

CJ defiantly desevered OPY but i dont know how he didnt get any votes in the MVP race 2500+ yards from scrimmage is crazy he even broke Faulks record.

Chris Johnson contract dispute/hold-out is apparently on the cards...

Source

While chances are Johnson will be there, there’s precedent for a standout running back not only successfully holding out for more money, but having his effectiveness reduced dramatically after signing.

Take the case of Larry Johnson, the Kansas City Chiefs running back who was never the same after a 25-day hold out resulted in a contract extension which put $19 million in his pocket _ $12 million in a signing bonus and $7 million guaranteed.

Larry Johnson had the best year of his career in 2007, gaining 1,789 yards on 416 carries and scoring 17 touchdowns. Taking into account the workload and shelf life of the average running back, he refused to report until he had been adequately compensated. In the 34 games since he signed, Johnson has 529 yards for 2,014 yards, averaging 3.8 yards per carry, with eight touchdowns.

The Chiefs cut Johnson last season, he finished up with the Bengals, and signed this offseason with the Washington Redskins, where is not guaranteed a roster spot.

Chris Johnson followed up a standout rookie season in 2008 with a spectacular 2009, gaining 2,006 yards and scoring 14 touchdowns. At 200 pounds, Chris Johnson is only 24, but at 200 pounds is 30 pounds lighter than Larry Johnson. He’s carried 609 times in two seasons. There are indictions he won’t report without a new contract, and the Titans are at present standing their ground, according to the Tennessean.

Tennessee on one hand realizes Johnson is underpaid, but looking to the future, understands a 200-pound back can only take so much pounding until his performance begins to slip. They could easily look to the Larry Johnson contract and be reluctant to make the same mistake.

Something I wasn't aware of, about Jeff Fisher, until the other day... did you know:

Jeff Fisher entered the NFL as a 7th round draft pick of the Chicago Bears in 1980 and appeared in 49 games as a defensive back and return specialist in five seasons.
He earned a Super Bowl ring after Chicago’s 1985 Super Bowl season, despite spending the year on injured reserve with an ankle injury that prematurely ended his playing career. Fisher got injured on a kickoff return when he was tackled by then-Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Bill Cowher, the future head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Coincidentally the two became rivals as head coaches beginning in the AFC Central in 1995; Fisher's Oilers/Titans squads came out with an 11-7 record against Cowher's Steelers.

But I do recall Bill Cowher's classic trick play in his debut coaching game against the Oilers on the fake punt... Steelers shocked the reigning divisional champs 29-24 on the road... Steelers also swept the Oilers that season (1992). Jeff Fisher enjoyed a 7 game winning streak over the Steelers between '97-2000.

Jeff Fisher has a 141-116 record prior to the 2010 season. Starting back from the 1994 season (when they finished cold-stone motherless last with a frosty 2-14 record).

Also noteworthy: Jeff Fisher needed 6 campaigns to notch up a WINNING season (1999) :D <<Terry Wallace eat your heart out!!>>:D From Fisher's 16 seasons as HC, he has led his team to Three division titles with 6 of the 16 as winning campaigns. 5-6 post season record.

Is it fair to say that the Titans need to make the play-offs in 2010 to prevent the media talking up the Titans HOT SEAT ??

I am now officially on the Titans' bandwagon. "We" have the 2nd toughest draw this season according the nfl.com. First pre-season game is against the Seahawks on August 14th with our only pre-season game on TV against the Cardinals on August 23rd.

Then, come week 1, we play at home to the Raiders on Sunday September 12th.

I commend you for getting onboard the Titans before the 'real bandwagon support' comes to the fore. Best to be get on a team that regressed in the past campaign (from 13-3 in 2008 to 8-8 last season).

Last season's 0-6 start derailed their campaign early but expect a better start this season.

Titans 2010 schedule:
Week 1: Oakland
Week 2: Pittsburgh
Week 3: @NYG
Week 4: Denver
Week 5: @Dallas
Week 6: @ Jacksonville (MNF)
Week 7: Philadelphia
Week 8: @San Diego
Week 9: Bye
Week 10: @Miami
Week 11: Washington
Week 12: @Houston
Week 13: Jacksonville
Week 14: Indianapolis (TNF)
Week 15: Houston
Week 16: @Kansas City
Week 17: @Indianapolis

Will be earning their right to make the play-offs with such a tough draw but hey... Steelers Won the SB in 2008 with the NFC East (League's Toughest Division = NFL Toughest draw)

That's why I like the idea of Indy dropping off this season.. obviously the Titans have to beat the defending AFC Champs when it comes down to the CRUNCH... in the last month! Couldn't have any better. 2002 was the last & only time the Titans swept the Colts. Colts have a 3 game winning streak on the Titans.
