Fairly happy to say I saw history tonight!

Glenelg unlucky as Crows kicked a goal only about 1 minute before the lights went out, but probably would have lost if it was played to the end.

Draw seems a fair result.

Do you mean glenelg would have lost? The rain had stopped and we had got our run and structure back. Looked like we were running over them even with one on the bench.

I see Lever picked up a few touches. How was his game Nikki?

lights going out at glenelg is an absolute farce

they went out before westies' game against them last season. was ridiculous.

good on norwood winning too. friday night games for sanfl teams against the afl teams is bloody difficult. most of the sanfl players are off working during the day, then come and play footy at night. big effort required.

Correct, the crows had momentum and a huge breeze with at least 10 minutes left.

Not sure if Glenelg would have been able to get back in front.

Don't think Glenelg have run out games all that well this year.

Are we sure it was a "blackout" .... no Glenelg officials saw the writing on the wall and "accidentally" cut the wires or something to prevent yet another loss?

Gee, imagine if it was Port that were playing them ... the conspiracy theories would abound!!!

Crouch doesn't want to chase defensively
Grigg looking busy but horrible weather
Lever backs himself and aggressive but gives his opponent too much space. Dry day he would prob have about 5 goals kicked on him.
Obrien looking pretty good, great tackle on the wing to get a holding the ball call.
Ramsey - weather not to his benefit but has done some nice things. A little hard for forwards when all players are in a quarter of the ground!
Thats kinda what my mate said about lever last week. Thought he was trying to look good and eger to get some possesions and look busy. Thought he wasnt playing very defensively.

Shhhh, all the power numpties will hear you and come crying. They don't believe they have any advantage…at all, let alone Friday night games.

Not just the players, officials too. Some have to take annual leave in order to make it in time for the start of the reserves match.

Lol, I heard on the radio an SANFL coach bitched about that advantage. I am not sure whether its an advantage or not. The only advantage is AFL listed players are fitter from training 6 days a week over pre season.

You are kidding me aren't you!
The Port Power state league team have an enormous advantage over the SANFL teams.
Firstly they are professional footballers who train two sessions a day 4 times a week ...it's their profession.
They run game patterns and structures constantly. They have access to some of the best facilities around.
The SANFL players go to work 5 days a week then get to their respective clubs and have to train 2-3 hours a night 3 nights a week.
There are no recovery sessions during the day or physio's working on them relentlessly to get them up. They have to fit injury management in between work hours or on training nights.

The Friday game against the Port Power state league team is contentious because the SANFL players have worked the entire day before the game.
Some are involved in physical jobs which does tend to tire you out, then you need to front up to play a physical game of football against a well prepared, rested, professional squad.
The Power state league team have no such encumbrances.
At least on a Saturday game the SANFL teams have the morning off to relax... a slight concession.
As for your final point about the State league training 6 days a week over preseason compared to the SANFL part time training.... that is a huge advantage in itself. On that point alone the SANFL teams are seriously behind the 8 ball forgetting everything else.
It is a credit to the SANFL teams that they are actually competitive and able to beat the state league teams occasionally.
As for injuries, players in all teams in the competition get them and all teams have to cover them

The Crows are a slightly different kettle of fish as they have a vastly larger number of top up players who come from all over the place.
Yes they train together like the SANFL teams but I guessing not with their AFL teammates. The chances to practice game structures would be far more restricted in that aspect. They also rotate the top up players, so consistency could be a problem.

Some of the posters here have a skewed opinion of the SANFL. It is a proud competition that has existed for over 100 years.
The addition of the state league teams has changed the complexion of this league and many would argue not for the better.
The SANFL league is the best competition the two state league teams can possibly have in terms of preparing their players for the next step.
A touch of gratitude not constant criticism would not go astray.
