The AFL is all about maximising crowds
They will end up with Two Top Ranking AFL clubs getting involved and justify the decision as doing the best thing for the game. :thumbsu:

Thus growing the Money Pot for all

Could you imagine the potential for untold embarrassment if 15,000 people (or less) turned up to Etihad Stadium if a couple of "Nothing Clubs" were to play?

The AFL simply couldn't let that happen.

Almost right...They'll justify it as showing respect for the RCH by playing a big game and how the proceeds donated would be higher that way (although like ANZAC day, it'll be a token thing not much different to what happens regardless).

Just looking at the soccer and rugby games in Melbourne now and neither seems to have drawn a massive crowd. Maybe 10k at the rugby and 20-25k at the soccer (for a final)

Shows you can't just schedule anything and expect people will show up in big numbers just because it's Good Friday.

There is no way with a stand alone match that only 15,000 would turn up even if the two clubs were struggling. I really think two small clubs should be given any opportunity to make it into a blockbuster and then if the crowds are considered too low then change the match up.

Exactly

Then later in the evening Vlad's successor (probably Lil'l Gil) can appear on Chanel 7's Children Hospital Appeal and present a cheque in the vicinity of several hundred thousand dollars. :thumbsu:

Not sure it'd be that high, and it'd probably be the winning teams captain who gets to present the cheque (in the presence of a bunch of people who want to bask in the glory), but yeah, pretty much.

Maybe...but how directly involved does he get in the other blockbusters?

But this game would be different. (Good Friday)

The boss of the AFL appears on the RCH appeal and coughs up a massive check for the kids.

Selling the image that he is a good guy and that the AFL values Good Friday and the kids by sending in its number one man to make as much mileage as it possibly can.

A bit cynical - but most likely the way it would pan out

Scheduling them head to head probably wasn't ideal.

43500 for the Rabbitohs vs Bulldogs as the day match for the NRL, not too shabby for them.

I think we're both cynical about such things.

I think James Brayshaw would fight tooth and nail (literally) for the spotlight, so it'd be tough to follow a different practice to other games.

The soccer is a sudden death final against one of Victory's biggest rivals, with no AFL game on.

It's an absolutely appalling crowd.

Picture this............. Good Friday 2015

Collingwood versus Carlton/Richmond/Geelong/ maybe even St Kilda ;)

Or

North versus Bulldogs

Hey, when it comes to representing charity cases, who better?
